Default Need help identifying these plugs and what they do. (labeled pics)

This is on my 94 CX hatch. It had a JDM D15B installed by a shop about a month ago by the previous owner. It runs perfect, I just noticed upon inspection that there are two plugs which are either cut or unplugged. The first picture shows where the plugs are located:

If you notice, the wire leading to the plug on the left has been cut and sealed off with electric tape. Any idea on what that leads to?

Also, the plug on the right is simply unplugged and I can't find anything that could connect into it. What normally goes there?

Any help would be appreciated.

VTEC pressure switch and solenoid. Looks like your head was swapped for a VTEC one and whomever did the swap was too lazy to do the swap properly.

You're also missing at least opne of the distributor bolts.

damn, I didn't even notice the distributor bolt. I managed to find the missing plug, if you look towards the left in the second picture you can see it sitting there, it was a bitch to get it over to the plug though because of how short the wiring is. I BARELY got it to work. What are the effects of not having those plugged in?

Nothing in your case since you said your car ran perfect without them plugged in. Possibly you're running a non-VTEC ECU.

how would I be able to tell? Also, I never had a check engine light until I did the clutch the other day which required me to disconnect the battery. Is it possible that they disabled the CEL somehow until the next time the battery got disconnected?

Don't see how. You can check the ECU but if it was running perfectly I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe take it back to the shop and have them explain what they did.

yeah I could do that, the shop is 4 hours south of where I live though so that would kinda suck. Thanks for your help.

Do you have a pic of that other plug where you can see what colors the wires are? Normally OBD1 vtec pressure switch plugs are green, that's why I'm asking. If you're not throwing any codes it's most likely because it's running on the original CX ECU (it also looks like it's running the CX O2 sensor and exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. Ideally you'd want to run a '92 - '95 D16Z6 (EX/Si) exhaust manifold and catalytic converter, O2 sensor, and a P28 ECU, you'd also want to wire in vtec.

Yeah, basically your "swap" is only half-functional (if that) because the person or persons who did the work only did half the job. Lots of stuff left undone for it to be complete, so I sure hope you didn't pay them a lot of money.

yeah your running the economy cam lifts and timing the whole time. not taking advantage of vtec untill you sort out your ECU and vtec solenoid wiring.

ok so upon further inspection as well as talking to the shop who swapped the car (on the phone), I found the wire which should be hooked up to the solenoid. I'm gonna rewire it and plug in the pressure switch and see what happens. Are there any precautions I should take before doing this such as unhook the battery or anything?

you still need to see what ECU it is running. It'll matter for a few things, namely VTEC won't work unless you have the correct ECU. Also as someone said above, what color are the wires from that gray plug you stretched over and where do they go? If they didn't wire the solenoid I'm sure they didn't wire the pressure switch.

the wires from the gray plug are red and yellow/black stripe. The guy from the shop said they replaced all the wiring and ECU and that the VTEC was working correctly when it left the shop, the dude I bought it off of must've disconnected it for some reason.

Post the part number code on your ECU, please. Format is this: XXXXX-XXX-XXX

ok i'll do that when I get a chance, I just plugged in the pressure switch and connected that random wire i found to the solenoid and my check engine light went away, so that musta done the trick right there.

You never mentioned any CELs. You said that it was running perfectly.

i mentioned it a few days ago. I think what must've happened was that the wiring to the solenoid got pulled out sometime while I was replacing my clutch because it wasn't connected very good. that must've triggered the CEL because it went away as soon as I rewired it.

The D15B doesn't have the evap purge solenoid on the back of the manifold. Are you sure that plug you plugged into the VTEC solenoid is correct? There's like 5 of the those plugs, each running to different things. IAT, IACV, EVAP purge, and I want to say there are others.

Unless you purchased a D16Z6 harness, they probably reused the D15B8 harness and it lacks the plugs necessary. Also, the D15B vtec solenoid lacks the oil pressure sensor. So either it was added in, or someone swapped the solenoid.
