question regarding updating the audio equip. to a 7" touch screen
Hey all, used to be pretty big into Honda's back when I was in high school but got away from them once i started getting different cars, anyways, I am in the Air Force and picked up a 2005 Civic EX this past weekend to drive around to keep miles off the main car, driving from South Carolina to Florida will def rack up the miles haha. Anyways... I have the "special edition"
model, with the double din 6 disc changer in it, but I want to replace it with a 7" touch screen dvd player.... seems pretty simple, ive installed plenty of audio equipment in the past, but I read somewhere that the remote for the door locks is somehow wired in with the stock radio? is that true? meaning if i replace and install a new one will that take away the use of my keyless remote?
thanks in advance...
also to those who have done this swap out.. any specific model you reccomend? I know I definitely want something that will play the typical cds, mp3s, dvds, etc... but i may also want something with built in navigation since being in the air force its not uncommon for me to be driving in a unknown area.

I also recommend the use of a harness adapter, rather than cutting and splicing wires together.
Second the harness adapter. I've replaced a headunit in one car that didn't one available, and it's a pain cutting and soldering wires in the car.
I have a JCV 7" in my car, but no navigation so I can't speak to that. Otherwise, I like JVC--good design and value IMO. For what it's worth, it came down to JVC or Pioneer for me, and I don't think you can go wrong with either.
The only issue I had was with the plastic adapter that fits around the opening for the new headunit. After I got everything together, the faceplate would open but not close because there wasn't enough clearance. I had to grind down the back edges of the plate to make the opening slightly larger.

Thanks for your input. I may or may not get one with the built in navi, I have a brand new GPS I just recently bought so its not really something I need. And I definitely will get the adapter, makes life much easier.
