What's the starter's amperage draw on a 1997 Acura Integra GSR? I've searched but no luck. Thanks.

 

If you have a good ohm meter, you can figure it out fairly quickly...

Disconnect the battery cable from the starter (no voltage during the test)...
Have someone trigger the starter, or trigger it yourself with a wire to the battery (the smaller lead on the starter solenoid)..
Measure the resistance from the starter's power terminal to ground..

Use the formula (Ohm's law) described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohm's_law

In this case, divide the voltage by the resistance you measure.. (say 11.5V/0.1Ohm)

I made up the resistance for this example.. but in this case you'd get 11.5 / 0.1, or about 115 Amps.

Thanks. You state that I need to disconnect the battery, but need to trigger it? I'm assuming there are 2 leads on the starter. One that runs to the battery, and the other?

 

You want to disconnect the big fat one that carries current to the starter, so that you can measure just the ohms through the starter and not the battery (good way to fry the meter).

The smaller connector on the solenoid needs 12V to close the connection between the big lug/connector on the start and the starter windings so that you can measure the ohms (impedence) through the windings of the starter.

Once you've measured, put everything back.

Here's a pic:

Disconnect cable from battery from #1, connect Ohm meter to #1, disconnect lead from #2, apply 12V to #2, measure ohms between #1 and Ground.

When you're done, reconnect.

You could also have a friend turn the key - in which case you wouldn't need to disconnect or play with #2.
