C.O.P Coil packs, how long do they last?
Hey, I was think about converting over to coil packs mainly for reliabilty and less maintence. On my distributor setup now, all the internal parts keep getting corroded, every few months I take the cap off and all the terminals and point are corroded. The distributor is newer and I always had this on other cars also. My question is how long do coil packs usually last? In my autoshop class we had to replace them on cars that were only 3-5 years old, but those were Ford's and GM cars...I bet Honda ones last longer, but I don't know. Also, it doesn't look like I can do the coil pack setup and use the Neptune or Hondata setup, my only options are the AEM standalone or get the separate ignition system? Any experience would be appreciated.
As mentioned above, Hondata is scheduled to release the Hondata CPR (coil pack retrofit) for D,B,F,H series engines. It is designed to work with Hondata S300 and will require you to leave your distributor on the engine for the three pickups to be used, but will eliminate the need for the Honda ignitor/ignition module, rotor, etc..
Neptune may also be offering compatability with the Hondata CPR kit so that you can run the same coil on plug setup with Neptune RTP/Demon...
To answer your original question, the Honda coils seem to last longer than GM coils from what I've seen. However, I have seen several times failed coils on the D17 engines...

Every few months your terminals inside your distributor are corroded??? Do you leave the car on an aircraft carrier with salt spray happening to it. That is just nuts.
