timing belt off 1 tooth !?
hey honda tech,
i have a 99 integra b18b1. i replaced my timing belt myself about a month ago and just readjusted my valves yesterday (eliminated minor motor knocking i had). when i changed my timing belt i noticed i couldnt correctly align the cam gears to perfectly match eachother ( so they are both like + + ) so i did the best i could to get them as close together and put everything back together. (when i performed the timing belt replacement my valves where very loose and needed a readjustment on every cylinder) i started my car and the idle was fine (800rpm steady) and my teggy ran perfectly. yesterday when i adjusted my valves i noticed they were very out of spec and i took alotta time adjusting them perfectly. I started my car and noticed a rough idle ( bounces around 500-600rpm to 800rpm in neutral). i tried to advance my timing but it seemed to make it worse (engine stalled a couple times because rpm dropped so low when clutch depressed neutral) im guessing that i couldnt set the cam gears perfectly beacuse my valves where off and now that the valves are perfect the timing isnt performing right. (because im off a tooth or maybe 2)
what do you guys think? if my theory is right is their an easier way to reset the cam gears without basically performing a whole new timing belt replacement just to move the intake or exhaust cam 1 or 2 teeth?
thanks !

Check and make sure that the belt is off first. It's easy with the VC off. If it's off a tooth, you need to loosen the tension, pull the belt off the cam gears, adjust as needed and then put the belt back on the gears and and retension.
Check your valve adjustment as well, make sure you are doing that correctly, they shouldn't have changed at all in a few days. Adjust only when cold.
