Default changed timing belt in friends civic d16y7... now rattle in valve train

i just finished doing a timing belt in my friends d16y7, now this is the first experience ive had with single cam motors (all previous were dohc and VTEC)..... now everything is running nice and smooth at idle, but as soon as the car gets under load going up hill there is a loud rattling that sounds like its coming from the head...... the car has 144,xxx miles and this is the first mechanical work that we know of...... this wasnt happening before the timing belt went in, so is it possible i need to adjust the valves?? and if the timing was off, the rattling/tapping in the head would always be there, not just under load....... give me some ideas
thanks

i got the car up on jackstands and blipped the throttle and sometimes you could hear it rattling..... it sounds like a washer rattling around a bolt....... but its only when the engine is under a load......you can rev the motor when its at idle and it really doesnt do it much

Probably skipped a tooth on the timing belt and advanced the timing which is causing the pinging.

timing is slightly off. if it wasnt doing it before its the timing. also did the old belt break off or did u just replace it, if it did break then u prolly have bent valves

i agree, check the timing just incase, dont be ignorant and not...when it come be that simple. sounds like it...and the valves could be fucked if the tb snapped ...why did you replace it?

I know this thread is older than dirt but was this ever resolved or has someone ran into the same issue and found the solution? My 98ex is tapping under acceleration after having the engine rebuilt and the timing marks appear to be spot on.

Ive done that twice now. .009 on the exhaust and .007 on the intake. Would my timing be off if the head and block were decked/milled?
