Default P73 question about Hondata s300

So my 96 JDM R has the p73 ecu and im almost positive that its a obdII, so for me to run Hondata s300 I should use a p72 from an OBDI GSR correct w/ a obdII to obdI ecm harness? Tryed searching but not much info on the JDM p73, any help is appriciated thanks

P73 should all be OBDII. You can't use an OBDII with the Hondata.

You will have to get an OBDI and use a conversion harness. You'll need the OBDIIa harness.

If you can't get a OBDI p72, the p28 is a good choice to use.

Yes, you will need an obd2a to obd1 conversion harness, and an obd1 ecu to install the hondata s300 into. On the type-r engine there isn't any reason to have to use a more expensive p72, so you might as well get a p28 with the S300 as it will save you some money. Another option for a much cleaner install and less potential problems with a jumper harness is a P28 with S300 with OBD2a built in plugs as we offer:

Included with the software is a stock Type-R map that we can load onto the ECU for you before shipping so you can simply plug this directly into your stock ECU harness and start the car and begin tuning

Another quick question for you, would I be better off using the s100 unit for a N/A build with cams? or should I stick with the s300, Im very mechanically inclined but not that informed on the ecm/pcm options...

The S100 system is slowly being phased out as it doesn't have much to offer for the cost. The S100 can only be tuned by a hondata authorized dealer and requires a new chip to be programmed and inserted every time you re-tune (similar to using Crome). The S300 system is the way to go as you can have any tuner with decent tuning knowledge tune your car, and even make changes yourself by simply plugging in the usb cable and your laptop. To help you decide on whether the S300 is worth the additional $300 over the S100, let me put it this way; we sell approximately 150 of the S300 systems for every 1 of the S100's. It is simply that much better lol.

Going with an S100 or S200 became a waste of money as soon as the S300 system came out. It's an all-in-one package that is both more functional and physically smaller than the S200. It's also cheaper than buying individual "features" one by one.

or just use crome. the s300 has a few nice unique features, that said; depending on what you're doing crome may be perfectly fine

i'm almost done collecting parts for my build and using crome for just that reason.

stock R engine, precision 5431b turbo, inline pro manifold and a .7bar spring with 650cc injectors. just don't have the need for the extras that the s300 has
