3 subs with a 2 ch amp?
I think it is possible, it all depends if your amp can handle the ohm load that the speakers will give. If you buy 3 speakers with 4ohms each, and wire them to be 1 channel, the load will be 4/3 = 1.33333. It your amp can take 1 ohm, then you should be fine. If not, buy 8 ohm speakers to make it 8/3 = 2.666666.
the lower the ohm, the higher the load. Better quality amps can take higher loads.

depending on the final load you want you could always go with:
2x8ohm in parallel, in parallel with a 4ohm = 2ohm load
2x4ohm in series, in parallel with an 8ohm = 4ohm load
2x4ohm in series, in parallel with a 4ohm = 2.666ohm load
it all depends what you want and what you have already

my boy used to have a 3 jl w6 12'' subs in his sebrig and he had a rockford fostgate amp and those subs hit hard as hell.. i forget how he had to wire it, but jl and older rockford amps kick ***..
