Default vtec solenoid gasket

I picked up a new gasket this weekend part # 36172-P08-015 to replace the one on my JDM b16a, but the old one has a screen/filter and the new pne doesn't. I removed the screen from the old on but it doesn't fit the new gasket the same way the it fits the old. Its hard to explain but the old gasket is more of a sqaure shape and has slits where the sreen slides in, the new one is more of a round type of o-ring. attached is a pic of the new one, the old ones on the car so no pic.

am I supposed to run the new one without the screen ?

This is the solenoid BASE gasket :D The one with the filter has a different PN and goes in a different location :D

For my B16A2 (it's different part numbers for yours) it's like this:
http://www.hondaoriginalparts.com/ho...&block_03=8617
The part you got would be my '14'. What you need to replace is the equivalent to '12'.
Also note: I just refer to this site because of their schematics - I'd recommend you buy the gasket from Honda. It's actually cheap - G'luck :-)

I replaced 12 also, the picture for # 14 doesn't show a screen/filter but the original does have one

I believe he is trying to tell you the gasket you have posted that your afraid is not the same.. is the ''base'' gasket for the solenoid.

You need part #12. In part #12 you will see the gasket with the filter.

Unless I have misinterpreted the post.

When I replaced both of my VTEC solenoid gaskets the number 14 did not come with a filter nor did the original one I removed from my solenoid have a filter. I do not think the 14 (solenoid base) gasket is supposed to have a filter and only the 12 (spool valve) gasket has the filter. I do not know what that O-ring is that you got but it is not needed.

The solenoid base gasket I got from the Honda dealer was exactly like the one on the right in your fist picture. I think the one on the left is not original like you think. Maybe the last owner replaced it with some aftermarket gasket. Or maybe Honda used a different design gasket with a filter for certain solenoids.

last owner was in Japan lol, I put the gasket on without the filter, the o-ring is for the pressure switch

Well heres your answer. Apparently you must have an OBD-0 engine (jdm B16A1) that was never released in the US so for you to get the correct gasket you must order the base and spool valve gaskets from a 91 Acura NSX.

The OBD-0 B16/xsi was not released in the U.S. so we have to find gaskets for these old solenoids from the 91 Acura NSX, which uses the same vtec solenoid, and was actually brought to the U.S.

OBD 1 and 2 b16 / B18 / SIR II / GSR / ITR - these all share the newer style gaskets and were all brought to the U.S. so you can just go to the dealership and say you have any one of these DOHC vtec engines, and get the right part.

thanks ^

my engine is def obd1 though

I think it will be fine without the screen if they stopped putting them in, my whole issue with this was I took the screen out of the old gasket and installed it with the new and it was leaking, I just wanted to hear that someone who replaced theirs and if it had a filter or not and if the new did or not, you answered that thanks for the help I appreciate it

At least the revival post had pertinent current part information on the two gaskets. It wasn't just a bump to bump situation.

No get the correct screen for your year! and I'm pretty sure the JDM Vtec solenoids are different than the USDM solenoids.

Awesome thanks, I ordered the main gasket and it came with the top gasket with no screen. Guess I don’t have a reason for it, my main gasket was leaking. I’ll probably just end up leaving the other one cause it hasn’t leaked yet. But thanks again!
