Default Bump stop question

I just bought a Koni/GC combo with the extended top hats and was wondering if I need to cut the bumpstops that come with the tops hats. I know when lowering you will have to cut the oem bump stops but I'm guessing since these come with the top hats which in theory would be used on a lowered vehicle they will not. All the installs I see for the combo do not have any info on the top hats as far as I could tell.

My GC's have not made it in yet so I haven't even had a chance to look at the size of the bump stops yet but the more info I can get prior to install will just make it that much easier when they do get here.

Thanks in advance

I'm surprised the instructions don't say anything about it. Usually you cut the bumpstop in half. Use the bigger half.

Ok, so I just got my top hats, the bump stops are 2 1/4" or about 54 mm tall. No instructions on the install for the top hats, but the instructions for the coilovers show to cut the OEM bump stops.

I'm pretty sure these are at least a little smaller than OEM, I did a google search on civic bumpstop length and didnt get any good info so if anyone has any idea I'd be glad to hear them.

The install got pushed back another week so I'm in no rush.

Oem and aftermarket bumpstops usually have 4 sections. Normally you would cut at least one section off. Most people cut off two for common drops.

So since this has 3 sections I should cut where the red line is? Sorry if I'm comonig off as dull, just never dealt with non-oem bumpstops.

If those came with the setup you have I'd leave them alone. Unless you're super-dumping the car that bumpstop is already pretty short.

Those don't appear to be oem-copy bumpstops like what came with my progress setup.

Yeah, these came with the top hats supplied by ground control. I don't plan on dropping it to an ungodly amount, probably just above wheel wells. I got the tops because the terrible roads here.

Thanks again, you prove to be extremely helpful every time.

Keep in mind with those extended top hats, you're now more likely to have the upper control arms slamming into the shock towers. Watch our for dents on the shock towers. If you see any you either need stiffer springs or you need to raise the car. If you don't remedy the situation the UCA's can actually punch their own holes through the shock towers.

Thank you Patrick, I do remember reading a previous thread of yours stating that. The springs are pretty stiff but if I see any scraping from under the tower I will raise the car right away. I'd rather it sit higher and not do damage than have to fix something later.
