Default intermittent starting problem.

o.k it's a 91 crx si. I get in the car and try to start it and it just keeps cranking like there's no fuel delivery. I check the spark, and it still there. so I'm assuming its the fuel system. But check this out. sometimes I just get in the car and it starts up just fine. And it'll start up for months and months. then a hick up and it won't start. If it is the pump since I don't hear the priming when I turn the key on or the pump is just hella quiet, is this a dropping the tank fuel pump removal or I can get it from up top inside the car?

Have to drop the tank. It's easy so don't sweat it, just have a jack bracing it up because there's a few wires/hoses that you don't want to get torn.

I have the same problem with my 91 Si. I have narrowed down the problem to either a relay that turns on the fuel pump when the key is on or the ignition switch itself. Trying a different relay now but not sure if it is fixed or not. Definitely pay attention to the fuel pump though as that seems to be what isn't powering on.

I had that same problem in my 90 SI and in my 93 coupe. The coupe eventually never started again after a long trip, I had spark but I could not hear the fuel pump prime. Before I changed out the fuel pump I tried my friends ECU and it started right up. There is a capacitor in the ECU that goes bad that goes to the fuel pump. I am guessing it was the same problem on my SI so I am converting it to OBD1 with a new motor.

thanks for the input. I shall try the switchero with the ecu method since it's the easiest to do. then go from there.

Same sort of thing happened to me the other day. Turned out I had water in the distributor.
