Default 04 civic project questions D17A1

alright so i have a 04 civic lx D17A1 5speed. im trying to push this little d17 to max performance, but i dont know much about lx at all.

what i have done to it so far:

Cold air intake, Headers, straight piping from headers (amazing sound) , and this "performance chip" from PerformanceChipTuning.com (advertised 30-50HP gain, i think its bull but whatever). , and 18 inch rims with very wide grip tires

*i dont want to do a swap*
what can i do to my car? i want to put way more hp on this. is it turbo compatible? what other performance parts can be used on the engine? what is the reccomended suspension? please fill me in with anything you know. money isnt an issue, because this is a long term project. thanks

a lil bit ricey, but im changing the whole look soon

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news... but nothing you've done so far will provide you with any power gains. I read up on that "Performance Chip", and it turns out to be just a resistor that alters the amount of voltage being sent to the ECU from the Oxygen sensor. This forces the engine to run too rich. Without some form of forced induction, this is an unnecessary waste of fuel (which can rob you of some horsepower). Also, you can burn out your spark plugs quicker with the fuel build-up. And, with the addition of those heavy 18" wheels, you're losing a fair amount of acceleration and handling characteristics (regardless of what tire you're running).

If you're trying to get better performance out of your engine, the only solid investment will be forced induction. If that's out of your price range, a stage 1 cam along with a decent tune can net you a little bit of power (roughly 15whp in good scenarios). Any bolt-on you purchase outside of the cam, won't gain you anything that will be noticeable.

If you want to see some performance increases without investing much money/effort, throw the original wheels on with some nicer summer tires and invest in some good brake pads and blank brake rotors.

yea dude get some 16s they are way lighter, u can also start stripping your car if you want a little extra performance like power steering and other things you dont need but yea there isnt much you can do to d17s unless your boostin

Removing the power steering won't really net any performance gains, given the fact that the pump doesn't really cause much parasitic draw. And, if you're running a wider tire for grip, it'll make steering more troublesome.

Correction: running rich will prevent detonation, not cause it.

That's correct. I re-read my post, and have edited it for accuracy.
