Civic Paint Oxidizing
Anyone have any issues with the clear coat on a 2006 Civic EX coupe? Within 4 years of ownership, the clear coat began to oxidize. Since I was active duty military and pretty busy, I didn't really have time to take care of it.
Now that i do, a year later, Honda is not willing to cover it. I'm looking in to see if anyone else has this paint problem so I can fight them to have them repair it.
Pretty silly they are fighting me for a 1878 bill to repaint 2/3 of the car when they could lose thousands on sales.
Probably going to have to go to the BBB. Anyone have any thoughts?? Thanks.

my thought is that the car is over a year out of the bumper the bumper. You can claim that it started over a year ago. Honda at this point is under no legal obligation to do anything to fix it. Did you take the car in as soon as you noticed the problem and have honda look at the problem and make a case file? If so did the dealer offer to repaint the car at that time? If so it was up to you to get the car to them in a timely manner not a year later and demand that they fix it. I put this firmly on your shoulders and you may have to just pay for the respray out of your own pocket good luck
In some areas, the roof looks like chalk and in the areas where its further along the clear coat has flaked off and you can see the dull paint. The hood, trunk, and area above the doors are all showing signs of oxidation on the edges closest to the sky. In addition, the hood has a quarter size area of oxidation in the center of the hood. The roof really looks bad.
I tried posting pics, but I can't add attachments (new member) unless there is another way I'm not familiar with. (I'm new to these forums...sorry guys)
I didn't have time to take it to the dealer when I first noticed it over a year ago because I was really busy with the Military..didn't have time to mess with it. Now that I can, the dealership has looked at it now and won't do anything about it. It's clear it has been doing this for quite some time. Had I have been able to bring it to them and they offered to cover the costs, I would have had it in the shop fairly quickly haha.
Thanks everyone for your input/future input.

Paint holds up relatively well if it is taken care of - I'm guessing this car sat uncovered outside without a wash/wax and didn't have a cover on it? You being in military would definitely explain that if you were deployed at any point for an extended period.
*edit* You can try your hand at calling Honda of America, but I've got an inkling they will turn you down as well.

Fortunately I did wash/wax regularly...that's why I think it's an issue with the paint. I never deployed during the time, but was on 12 hour shifts 6 days a week for as long as I can remember (Sunday was only day off....which is why I could have them take care of it)....retarded I know.
