B17A1 question
Hey all I have a question about a block. Supposedly its a b16a so this guy says but the square area where the block code would be (ie B17A1 etc..) is ground to nothing. and the pistons in it are P61 not P30's and I read that the actual block housing i pretty much the same between the two. I know b16 stuff is PR3 stamped and I was wondering if the B17 would be PR3 as well? Because on the back side of the block by the flywheel it says PR3.. if its a b16 block why would he or the person before him put the lower compression B17 pistons in a B16? assuming the crank and rods are B16. But all the internals could be B17 and it could be a B16a block (and he stoked it) for all I know.. Im quite confused so any help would be appreciated..
thanks
thanks
...That is as confusing as reading your post. well, if I read it correctly, its an unknown block because the engine stamp part, has been grounded out. I don't know much about the B16 and the B17, but it would be nice to hear from others. But if he decided to put Lower compression pistons in a high compression block, hes aiming for boost.
most likely is a b17a1 block...pr3 is still a b17a1 head code, and cam gears would still say pr3(if the head was there)...all a b17a1 is, is a stroked b16. Nobody would put p61's in a b16 block unless, its all they could find on craigslist and were too anxious to get the motor together for some odd reason...or cheap way to drop compression a lil for boost.
is the serial number still visible or is that ground off too?
