Icon6 Bad Idle-Sporadic Idle in park and while in gear stopped.

Stock 94 Civic EX 2dr Automatic

I have a recent problem of my car idling up and down really bad after warming up in park and while stopped in gear. The problem appears to get worse the warmer it is out. I have to place the car in neutral to keep the car from wanting to go while stopped at a light.

I have done some searching and it seems I should check my IACV and or FITV?

Anything else I should check, any specific Civic right ups?

Sounds like the IACV to me too. I would check for vacuum leaks, just in case.

Removed and cleaned the IACV and FITV with no luck. For the FITV any info how adjusting the plunger or pictures?

Thinking it may be a manifold gasket leaking ask I'm hearing a sucking sound. Any good write ups on removal of intake manifold?

While doing this I am going to change coolant in cooling system. Is on bottle of coolant from Honda enough to fill the cooling system?

Thanks.

When you have the hunting idle, remove the air intake and then use your finger to cover the hole inside the TB leading to either the IACV or FITV. Does covering one of these two holes stop the idle surge?

I have not tried that. I have the intake manifold off right now and replacing the gasket. If that doesn't work I will try the method suggested above.

Thanks.

so what ended up happening ? Im having the same issues with my 97ex. The car was actually just put together from parts of two different cars combined so I doubt cleaning out the iac is going to do the trick. I'm sure the mechanic who put it together cleaned it out. The shitty thing is, when we asked the mechanic why its doing that he said not to worry and that its a honda thing. I think that's the most ****ed up answer someone can give. I would have rather him said I don't know, or I don't have time right now to troubleshoot it. So id like to fix it myself instead of bringing it back to him. I'm just wondering if you've fixed the issue and what it ended up being so I know where to start.

For my car it ended up being the intake manifold gasket. While taking the intake manifold off you could see where the gasket started to badly deteriorate in the top middle of the intake manifold if you were looking at from above. A somewhat pain to take off and replace but otherwise fixed the problem.

After research the problem can be the IACV, FITV, Cooling System, low fluid, and vacum leaks. A lot of people quoted this being a big Honda problem, but personally had never experience this before.

I ended up blocking off part of the IACV with a bit of duct tape and opened up the screw a bit to bring the RPM's to the right level. I know this isn't the right way to fix the issue but it's worked for the past few months. I've been looking for a new one at the junk yard, but havent found one yet.

Which way did you turn the screw counterclockwise or clockwise?

What part did you block, maybe one of the hoses is leaking and you can replace it.

As for IACV parts stores have them as well, for maybe 150 or so.
