Harsh riding CRX on Sportlines/Koni: Other options?
The short: I drive I-52 daily and it beats the **** out of me. My current suspension setup is:
- '89 CRX HF w/ D15Z1 swap
- Energy suspension bushings throughout, even trailing arms
- Eibach Sportline springs (1.5-1.7" drop, basically a 2-finger gap tire to fender)
- Koni Red shocks (one below yellows, adjustable off car, currently on 2 out of 5 settings, 5 being the firmest)
- Stock tire size on generic steelies, recent alignment
I didn't want GC/Yellows in the beginning b/c of price/overkill, this is a fun DD & I didn't need adjustability, just install and ride carefree. Should I attempt to soften the Reds, go Yellow, get the pro-kits instead, or start over? Would top hats matter? I'm not asking for stock comfort, I know I won't get that on a lowered ride, I just like my kidneys & teeth fillings to stay where they are on expansion joints and minor potholes. Spanx, Mak

eibach sportlines and prokit use the same spring rate so that wont make much of a difference.
Look at the spring rate chart and find something softer. Most of these spring rates are progressive and it seems like the manufacturers measure them differently so take the measurements with a grain of salt. I have Tein S-Techs and Illuminas (on stiffest setting) which are civilized for DD and they are girlfriend approved. LOL

Those springs are only marginally stiffer than the stock ones compared to most. Adjust the koni's softer until they feel better... if you get them too soft the car will bounce. The poly bushings are responsible for a lot of the harshness you feel too.
the bushings were needed at the time, the rubber was dry-rotted and saggy. The old bump stops literally crumbled like an old pop tart in my hand so I got OEM replacements, I didn't cut them down b/c I didn't know what was a safe amount and that is prob. my #1 bottoming out issue. I don't mind the firmness of the ride, it's the harsh ka-bangs over uneven pavement and highway bumps. How much can I lop off the stock bumpstops without damaging anything? Spanx again, Mak
