whats the easiest way to tell if my fuel pump is working?
The car wont start and I cant hear the fuel pump. Should I be able to hear it? Whats another way i can check? The main relay is clicking.
Put the ignition on, you should hear the fuel pump priming, kinda sounds like a electric buzz/foom sound. Sticking your head on the rear seat you should really here it. If no sound, good chance your Main relay may be dead "main relay controls the Fuel pump" I would start with the relay under the dash they are known to go bad, its cheaper and much easier to fix. tearing apart a fuel pump is messy and more expensive.
The cheapest route, try to re-solder the connections in the Main Relay to fix it, there's a how-to around here somewhere and a little searching should find it easily. And grab a Hayne's manual and a multimeter if you don't already have one. Should give you resistance specs for checking the fuel pump itself.
I can say from experience it's more likely to be a relay problem, pumps do go out but just check out the relay before you get in too deep.
P.S.- Anyone who knows where to find the relay repair writeup please message me!
