Default Proper way to remove clips in engine bay

What is the proper way to remove clips in the engine bay such as the two on the driver side shock tower: the natural colored ones for the 2 washer hoses and cruise cable and the holder for the hood prop rod. I am trying to replace them because they are cracked, but I don't want to just yank them out and possibly break off the inside piece and have it stuck inside there.

Does Honda expect you to get your hand under the shock tower to push the bottom sides of the clips together with a plier or something?

just stick a flathead under one side to pop that side out, keep that side up and then do the same on the other side of it
