Default Suspension Setup

Well this summer I finally ditch the S-techs and get a "real suspension" and I was just going to post it and see your reactions.

Please be honest and speak your mind thats why Im posting:

LOL at real suspension.

I'll be honest. F&F coilovers aren't great. You could do MUCH better for not much more money. What's wrong with the S techs?

The lca's have been known to have bushing issues. IMO, Function7 is the only aftermarket lca worth a damn.

ASR is great.

A 24mm is a large bar. A you sure you want something that big in back? What size front bar do you have?

I've never heard anything bad about ASR endlinks, but they are expensive.

Daily driver? Budget? Plans for the car?

You can do much better then FF's for the same cost....Progress CSII FTW

Skunk 2 rear LCA's- http://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/viewP...idcategory=256
Are you current LCA's busted? This is all flash, OEM or F7...no other choices here IMHO

ASR Rear Subframe Brace- http://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/viewP...idproduct=1908
Kind of flashy, but to each their own.

ASR 24mm sway bar- http://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/viewP...idcategory=357
Great...but too large on my DC2, wish I would have just one w/an OEM 22mm bar

ASR rear sway bar endlinks- http://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/viewP...idproduct=2520
Made so much noise, squeaks and creeks, I was so bummed. (took a couple months to start, at first it was all good)
As 98 mentioned...what are your plans for this car?

PS- you can't ditch S. Techs, pick up FF type 1's and call it real suspension.

Yes this is for a DD.

First off I was planning on just doing the Coilovers and LCA's first and my budget for both would be under $1,000. Im stuck on the FF, my buddy has them on his EK hatch and the quality is amazing for a DD and I have looking into F7 and probably will switch to those since most people tell me to.

And I guess a 24mm is way huge so I should go with the 22mm?

Not much as plans, just a typical DD to drive back and forth to work, college, and out with buddies really.

I plan to swap out the engine this summer or fall as well, but no auto cross or anything just DD.

Front sway bar?

As I said you can do better, look at koni/gc. You'll blow that FF **** out of the water.

I don't even have a front sway bar

And well would the FF work for me or are they a bad idea for DD?

That large of a rear bar could be a problem for you, if you aren't experienced.

They will work, but why not spend a little more now on Koni/gc? Life time warrenty, and very tried a true setup.

The only time you'd catch me on FF is if I got it for free. Take the money you would spend on LCA's and get a better suspension setup. LCA's don;t do anything.

The truth is Im paying for 2 more years of college through a garbage job at Kmat(yes they are still around) and Im trying to go cheap without killing quality and most reviews for FF type 1's are great for DD.

Alright so your saying don't even bother with LCA's. I believe you and all, but everyone puts them on their civic's. Will my Old OEM ones be able to hold a drop on coilovers?

And ok so the ASR 24mm sway bar is too big for my experience, what size do I go with?

The Progress CS2's are cheaper then the FF1's, AND you'll get to choose spring rates. If you choose not to throw more money into the Koni/GC setup. Koni/GC set you back about $800 most likely. But they're fantastic.

Before you dead set yourself on a coilover at least look into Progress, their product is tried and true. HT search, most people couldn't be happier. For the price of Progress CSII's you will not find anything that come close performance wise and I can gaurantee you that.

Everyone puts LCA's on their Hondas/Acura's because they "look cool" and this has been a big fad. Want to know what I think? I think LCA's go well on cars that say "hey, im sitting right here...come steal me" Honestly they're just a visible bust. If people can see that your car has mods its makes it all that much more tempting...that + college campus = BAD NEWS IMO.

Go w/a USDM ITR 22mm or JDM 23mm ITR bar, HT search the thread first, I think 9 (not sure, I have an Integra) you'll need different LCA's if you choose to go w/an OEM ITR Bar. But who cares, its only 1mm less then the ASR bar and its like $90 shipped!

Thanks Prey and yes I will look up CS2's and do my research and go from there!

My question is I don't wanna go all out at first a few pieces at a time. So will I be able to get coilovers and LCA's and that's it or do I need other aftermarket parts?

Lca's do noithing. They really just sit there and add bling. There's no advantage to adding them.

How low do you want to go?

Well im not saying you can't handle just a 24mm in rear. Becuase I really don't know how experienced you are.

From my experience (I have driven with just a 24mm) it's a big bar. And created a VERY tail happy car.

How much experience do you have with honda's and large rear bars?

I'd reccomend sticking with stock sway bars for now. You'd be suprised how differently the car will feel.

You could do a 22mm in front, and a the SI 13mm rear and go from there.

Hmm ok so my question now is can I just start out with getting coilovers and that's it at first? Will they bolt onto my stock DX LCA's and hold strong with a drop?

And I have maybe 1 year experience with a Honda and 0 experience with an aftermarket sway bar. So what should I do that is cheap and reliable?

Sure can. Assumning the bushings aren't completly shot, and you preload them. I would think you'll be ok. I was/still am.

The whole sway bar thing is all opinon related.

I'd reccomend starting small.
Front and rear sway bars are really easy to add. And go larger as your need increases.

Ok so for being a poor college kid Ill start with either FF Type 1 Coilovers or Progress CS2's

What do you mean preload them?

And Im not going for anything crazy with suspension at first and maybe not for a year or so I just want a drop and slightly better handling.

In order after putting on the coilovers what should be my next step in suspension?

What would be wrong with getting coilovers first and sway bars after?

Yes. But you'll need EX lca's or at least the back halfs.

Do a quick a search and you'll see.

Ok so I did some info and I see that a DX does NOT have a front or rear sway bar.

So get an si rear, and an ex front sway bar? and I will ex front LCA's for the front sway bar?
