Default No Vtec.. confused...

ok.
So i have a jdm gsr that i just took the head off and put a b16 head on.
the b16 head is ported, has oversized flatfaced valves dual valve springs titanium retainers and skunk2 stage2 cams.

vtec doesnt engage no matter what and throws code 23 after i hit like 6k in 3rd gear.
i was going to go get dyno tuned but i cant due to the cel and no vtec

ive checked the wiring and continuity and everything is fine, ive changed the oil pressure sensor and that didnt change anything, i dropped the oilpan and it seemed normal under there... i took off the valve cover and pulled the ecu fuse and oil is making its way to the head. ive read the vtec diagnosic threads..and fallowed all of their steps.

also i had vtec before i took the old head off and never had an issue like this before
and i use a fram filter, and usually do

Curious.. Was this head used and plugged for LSVTEC before?

Also did you rebuild your vtec solenoid yet?

Little o-ring under cam cap number 3 (I believe) there? Its for an oil passage. If it was never re-installed, it could prevent vtec from working. Do you have an oil pressure gauge on the motor?

i believe it was at one point, but the head came off of a b16 bottom end (if i was told correctly) and there were no problems with vtec before, but maybe i was told incorrectly... idk i dont think so because where i believe it had the fitting for lsv in the head is plugged so i kinda believe that it did come off of a b16 bottom end. idk!

So pull the cam cap off and check to see if the o-ring is there. If its is absent, problem found.

Check o-ring and dowel pin under cam cap 3. Make sure they aren't missing and o-ring isn't torn.

Check for all rocker pins. Make sure none are missing.

pulled cam cap #3 to find no o-ring.
all dowel pins were there i made sure of that when everything was assembled i just didnt notice the lack of an o-ring.

i just ordered one from honda and will reassemble everything tomorrow and let you guys know whats up

would missing the o-ring really cause this issue? do you think replacing it will fix it?
i really appreciate the help guys

Yes it will fix it. You need the small dowel and the O-ring also.

Yes missing that o-ring will result in no vtec. Random guess for the win. Lol
