88 Honda Accord LXi - starting problems
My 88 accord will not start when warm. Starts great when cold. Motor turns over good. I have checked spark and fuel and both are good. Car runs great when it starts. When starting problem occurs I can unplug the idle air control valve and turn over engine until check engine light comes on then plug IACV back in and car starts and runs fine. Replaced IACV, assuming since unplugging it solved problem it must be bad. It made no difference. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I hate to just start guessing and replacing things.
What is warm in your description? When the outside temp is warm or when the egnine is warm? Key on, does the CEL come on for a few seconds and then go off.
Have you cleaned the tb anytime recently?
Are there any stored codes in the ECU? Besides the one(s) you are setting by unplugging the IAC.
And just for my own personal interest-2dr coupe, 2dr hatch or 4dr....and what trans. Again, just for my own little research.

Sorry took so long to reply, storm here in alabama got power and we just got back up.
By warm I mean the engine. After it has run for 10-15 minutes. No the CEL does not come on ever excpet when we unplug the IAC. If by TB you mean timing belt, no we have not done anything with that. I dont know about codes, cause everyone I have tried to take it to to get codes read says they cant do it cause its older than 1996.
Finally, its a four door sedan with auto tranny.
THanks,
Jeff

To get the codes he is talking about, under the passenger side of the dash, there is a plug (blue in my accord). Unplug it and put a wire between the 2 sides of the plug and turn the key to the on position. The number of long and short flashes on the dash will give you the codes. Just google honda accord troubleshooting codes to decipher them.
