Default 95 civic d16z6 cranks then dies, ecu code 0

Yes I searched.

Already checked and cleaned all grounds, all fuses and relays are good. Swapped in another p28 (that isn't chipped) just to see if the cel would do anything different and it was the same.

Key in "on" position the cel comes on and stays on. Doesn't change when I jump the harness to check codes. Been driving it without an issue since last summer. Came home last night, shut it off, and went out this morning to fire it up. It cranked right up, idled up for a split second like normal then died. I haven't touched anything under the hood or driven it any differently. So damn random

Any ideas? thanks

Are you saying that you have been driving the car with code 0 for some time now?

Currently:

-Does the fuel pump prime?
-Is there bright white spark at the plugs?

nope, I have been driving it without issue for a long time and just meant that I haven't done anything to it but change oil. I came home and shut it off like normal. Next day go out to crank it up and it does this.

Fuel pump primes loud and clear, hell it smells like it's flooding now. I'm double checking spark now, yesterday it was pretty good spark during the daylight. I'll check again.

At first spark seemed perfect because as soon as I would turn it over it would ignite, great white spark! But later I tried again and kept it turning over and noticed after the initial spark, that was it. It would stop after that. Which now makes sense as to why it will fire right up then die LOL.

ugghhhhh. My tach never jumped around but I guess it may still be an ignitor issue.

Is the G101 ground on thermostat housing clean and tight?

Yea yesterday I pulled it, scuffed and cleaned it all up and put it back on. All good there.

Try resoldering the main relay.

Do you have a multimeter?

1) Turn the key off and unplug ECU connectors A and B.
2) Turn the key to ON(II).
3) Measure voltage to body ground at ECU connector terminals A25 and B1.
4) Test for continuity to body ground at ECU connector terminals A26 and B2 (turn key to OFF for this test).
5) If you use a jumper wire to ground ECU connector terminals A7 or A8, does the fuel pump run? (Turn the key to ON(II) again for this test).

Checking now, I'll let you know in a few.

By the way, I really appreciate this!

Ok just got back with a new volt meter, someone "misplaced" mine ugghhhh

so far:

a25 = 12v
b1 = 10v

What voltage do you measure across the two battery posts? That's about what you should read at both A25 and B1. They shouldn't give different voltages.

A26 and B2 both have continuity to ground

My fan runs with the key in the on position, let me double check.

Somebody jumped the 2P connector for the fan switch on the thermostat housing. Remove the jumper wire for these tests.

Battery voltage = 12.01 with fan on

rechecked a25/ b1 again and both give me 12 volts. I must have not had a good connection first time

Grounded A8 and didn't hear the fuel pump prime, but it did spark a little

That's good.

Try grounding A7. If the pump still doesn't run, then try grounding both A7 and A8 at the same time.

With fan off same results but add an extra .3 volts

My fan is straight wired from a fuse turned on with the igntion.

I forgot to mention this is originally a cx vehicle and harness. Vtec had to be wired in... but don't see how that would make any difference. Just throwing it out there.

Try grounding A8 with the fan disabled. When you turn the key to ON(III), does the starter crank weakly? Battery voltage should be about 12.5V.

What voltage do you measure at A8 with the key in ON(II)?

I'm sure it's normally 12.5 instead of 12.4 but the past 3 days of cranking and not running is probably taking it's toll. I'll trickle charge it tonight.

Gonna test a8 with fan disabled now. brb
