Default NGK Spark Plug Selection: All Motor Application

Motor is B18C (gsr) with ITR (jdm) pistons and CTR cams. I have estimated the compression at between 11.3:1 and 11.5:1. I have been running BKR6E-11 plugs leaving them gapped per NGK specs. Now I have done some research.

NGK lists as follows:

1997 Type R use BKR6E-11 gapped to .044
2001 Type R use BKR7E-11 gapped to .044
1997 GSR use BKR6E-11 gapped to .052
2001 GSR use BKR6E-11 gapped to .052

My questions are:

1. Why do the '97 and '01 Type R use different heat range plugs per NGK?
2. Since my motor is a hybrid of the GSR/ITR, what heat range do I use?
3. What do I need to gap my plugs to?

I have GSR P72 head, but compression higher then USDM ITR. I've heard of people gapping to tighter specs on NA applications. Just wanting someone to pass on some wisdom.

I have bkr7e11 in an lsvtec. Gsr head with ctr pistons I believe the gap is 34 not sure tho.seems to be ok

Bkr7e's will be all you ever need over 11:1 comp. If you're over 13 id recommend the 8's that are used in most boost builds. As far as gap is concerned, you generally run a tighter gap on boost builds due to the boost possibly "blowing" out your spark. Regardless of whether its n/a or boost, you want to run as large of a gap as possible without misfiring. This lengthens the distance your spark can travel and therefore creates a better burn. A good grounding system can help lengthen the gap as well, since the spark travels to the grounding strap at the end of the sparkplug where it is returned to the motor through the threaded part of the plug and back to the battery.

Ok, so have I been doing any damage running the BKR6E-11? I have a set of NGK plugs in both 6 and 7 heat range I could use. Would you just gap them to NGK specs or do you have any tips as to what to set gap at with out causing issues? Off subject but I just did a compression test on my car, 240-230-235-240, thought that was decent.

You probably wont be doing any physical damage only way to tell is with a good knock detection system. If you look down the spark plug holes with each cylinder at tdc and notice little shiny metal specs, then you are detonating. If not you should be good. As far as testing gap, start with .60 and go for a ride up to maximum rpm. If there's no misfire/stutter, increase. If there is, decrease. Let's say if you start getting misfire at .78, then backing off .10 is a good rule to accommodate natural plug wear and varying conditions.

Runing to hot of plug can lead to issues with detonation, but to cold can foul out during light throttle or sitting idleing. Run the gap as large as you can with out a miss.

The reason I ask what you really high comp guys are using with e85 is because I realize you would want a colder plug with such high compression but does the cooling effects of the e85 relieve the need to drop to a cooler plug?

On my new build its 14.3:1 on e85 and I was planning on just testing the 7 vs the 8s but it'd be nice to know what works for your guys' set ups aswell.

BKR7E-11 ok to use on an australia VTiR with 10.6:1 comp?
Are NGK heat range 5 platinum plugs too hot for an 2001 Australian Type R, 11:1 comp?

so im guessing i should use a BKR7E-11 on a b20v with rs-machine pistons? head is b16 fully built and ported, balanced bottom end. i plan on taking it to mid 9k rpm. change gap?
