Reduce it to what? Compared to what? etc. Very vague statement... we need to know what you're looking for, possible equipment, etc.

but to start with...i agree DIY will definitely help you a lot with the labor part...
as far as the equipment, dont buy equipment just because of the names/brand..
sometimes if you do it right or match the right ones/equipment you dont have to pay a lot of money to get a good music out of your system... you do get what you paid for...
but be smart with buying your equipment, theres cheap/medium brands out there that will perform about the same with the super expensive equipments...with a little tuning and matching...(equipment) ...even just placing of the box(subs) adding little stuff like deadening doors...
