I was driving home from work (1/2 tank of gas) and out of the blue my engine cut off, lights and everything were still working. The car turns over but it wont start, and the sound it makes when it's trying to start sounds iffy as well. Any idea what the problem might be? I'm gonna see if it's throwing any codes tomorrow...

When was the last time the timing belt was changed? Sounds like it slipped/broke. For your sake I hope it didn't cuz if it did you prob ate some valves in the process. Take the vc off and see if the belt broke. And check the cam timing.
possibly the main relay or icm. IF it doesnt start tomorrow. Check for spark and fuel. Listen to see if you can hear the fuel pump prime as well when you turn the key.

Thanks guys, whatever help I can get is much appreciated. Want to check as much as I can before I have it towed to the mechanic.
probably the ignition coil. same thing happened to friends car...cranked but no start.
These coils and ignitors in our cars should be part of regular maintenance since there is a such a huge track record of them going bad and causing people to be stranded....Poor design on honda if you ask me...

did it start cutting out like there was a loss of power? or as if there was a loose power connection? my car did this not to long ago and it was a jumped belt due to it being old and streched and the tensioner was also a little worn. or as the above said it could also be the coil

I had the same thing happen to me with a B20B swap in a 1992 Civic. Turned out it was something in the distributor that went bad. I would first see if you was getting any spark and if not then there ya go. See if you have a friend with the same motor as you do and try his distributor on yours as well.

Before you crank the engine again, check your valve timing to see if you have skipped a tooth.
Although it is an "interference" engine, it is very unlikely any damage was done to the valves and/or pistons, if all you did was skip one (1) tooth, however, cranking the engine repeatedly to try and start it can cause you to skip more teeth, resulting in severe, [spelled EXPENSIVE] engine damage.
Once, [and only if] you confirm valve timing is correct, do the basic "why is my Teg not running diagnostics"...
Step one...
Confirm PGM-FI Main Relay and fuel pump are working - turn ign. to run, [not start] relay should "click" two (2) times, [will sound like one click as they are very close together] CEL will turn on, fuel pump will prime for a few sec., relay will click a 3rd time, fuel pump will stop priming and CEL will go out.
Step two...
Confirm fuel, crank engine, [remember, not before checking valve timing] a few times, immediately remove a spark plug and inspect for gas, is plug "wet" with gas, does it smell of gas?
Step three...
Confirm spark, ground plug to engine and have someone crank engine to check for spark, hint, keep face and spark plug away from empty spark plug well.
Step four...
Confirm compression, do a proper compression test.
Step five...
Confirm fuel pressure, use pressure gauge to test fuel pressure.
One or more of the above is not working, because of the way the engine stalled, "out of the blue my engine cut off", my guess is ICM, [no spark] so you could start ar Step three, but again, not before confirming valve timing is correct. 94

out of sight, out of mind.
OP, I believe either your timing belt has snapped, or your ICM has taken a dump.
