Default valve cover nightmare

I used a paint stripper and then cleaned the VC. I tried spray painting the VC with a high temp spray paint but each time I tried I got the paint to bubble and wrinkle as it was drying. What am I doing wrong? The same thing happened when I tried to paint the plastic spark plug cover...

single stage spray paint..?

did u lightly sand it, or wipe it down with cleaner before hand..?

i use etching primer on any straight metal parts, before painting them. Not sure if the high temp needs to sprayed straight to metal or not, but thats how i like to do it.

You need to wetsand it a bit 400-600 grit.

You need to find high temp primer as well.

I used high temp primer on mine and then spray regular satin krylon and no issues with flaking or bubbling even under operating temperature.

Yeah, I also used primer and it seemed ok but when I sprayed the color coat it bubbles as it was drying up.

How many layers did you do?
It seems like you are spraying too much on one spot.

ok, there is a few things that could have gone wrong.

did you neutralize the paint stripper after the paint started coming off ? (rinse with alot of water)
sanding grit depends on if your using primer surfacer. if using surfacer 120-180 grit if not 320-400.

clean with wax and grease remover. paint will seperate if surface is dirty with grease or sylicone type chemicals.

I cleaned it with water and brake cleaner. I am thinking the brake cleaner was probably a bad idea. I will try with the sandpaper and see how that goes, same for the plastic cover? I appreciate your advice.

Yep. Toluene and Acetone in brake cleaner do not like paint.
