hello h-t friends, my mother just bought me a 03' civic for a daily, and she said while she was driving, the car just shut off on her,and oil was squirted everywhere. when she towed it to me, i check the knick nacks on the car, there is no oil squirted anywhere just little drips from maybe an oil pan gasket, but when i try to start the car, does not turn over,has this weird buzzing noise from the "under-dash" fuse boxbut it goes away if i press the brake down,but as soon as the brake is released, it keeps buzzing fuel pump does not primeonly lights on, are the srs light and the "brake" light. headlights doesnt come on, radio doesnt come on.. anything..oem alarm doesnt even work. i was leaning towards maybe the main relay is out? can any one please help me, this is my only ride to work and i got till monday morning to fix this.. please anyone thank is advance
ps. the car is an automatic 03 honda civic with a d17

Tell you mom to take it back to where she got it from and get her money back. She bought a PoS. Start checking fuses and relays. If I heard a noise I would stick my head down there and check it out. Might want to take a few days of vacation, the car sounds like a gem.

 

It's either the main relay (behind the glovebox) or the MCU (Multiplex Control Unit) which is integrated into the under-dash fusebox. You should here the main relay click as soon as you turn the ignition to ON.

i was thinking it could maybe be the ignition switch, but the car isnt responding to the OEM alarm or anything, and when i turn the car on the "on"position i dont hear a click or anything, and the only light on now is the "brake" light...can anyone shine some light about the non responsive alarm and ignition switch maybe? thank in advanced

 

Pull the main relay and test it. All relays are the same. Look for terminals 87 and 30 or, if not labeled the two smaller terminals. With jumper wires connect one terminal to ground and the other to the battery. It doesn't matter which terminal, it won't hurt it. You should here (and probably feel) it click when battery and ground are both applied.

If the relay is good replace the under-dash fusebox.

 

I don't mean to sound like a smart-***, but it sounds like the battery's dead.

 

lol no smart *** you are sir, i thought it was the same thing until i hooked some jumpers up to it, lol that was the first thing i thought lol but i checked the main relay, or i think it was the main relay? but i check it and it seems good, on to checking the fuses ...any other input will he highly appreciated

 

Did it come with any kind of warranty? Normally they'll throw a 30 day (some-odd) mile warranty into the purchase.

 

she bought it from a coworker, and they quit the job, no answered calls, no returned voicemails, go figure...so i was just gonna charge it to the game and fix it myself..

 

ookay, got everything to work, i replaced the whole under-dash fuse box, i jacked up the car finally and see where the oil is coming from, sort-of, can anyone tell me, could i turn the crank manually (meaning with a 19mm socket and ratchet) on an automatic while the car is off like as in a stick. i tried to turn the crank to see if it was locked and it wont budge, in park, or in neutral. and i was wondering maybe its cause its an auto..anyone?

Yeah, it should turn fine in neutral. With the front jacked up, can you rotate the wheels by hand in neutral?

 

Unfortunately I've seen it so many times it's getting to be routine. I think the top 3 problem parts on the 7th gen are:

1. bad auto trans
2. bad ELD
3. bad MCU
*fuel door release for or northern members. lol

There's more of course but, those seems to be the most common. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but, the main relay really hasn't been a big problem with this gen. Maybe they're just not old enough. We'll see when they're as old as the EFs and EGs.

found out the problem....slung a rod through the block...guess its time for a swap...

Are you going to K-swap, or just toss another D17 into it?

 

lol i didnt really jack up the car just been lazy and this GA weather is crazy, tornados,sunshine, tornados, sunshine, rain , thunder, sunshine, tornado etc..and no lol its gonna be my/my mother's DD so another D17 it goes, my teg drinks gas like its a v8!
