I've owned both (98 EJ8), and if you're concerned about the ride at all, there is no question there -- STechs (and this is coming from a guy that currently owns a skunk2 setup on my Del Sol
)
Just don't stick them on a crappy stock replacement shock like a GR2.

this....I got mine for an awesome deal from psi proformance
The S.Techs are a good spring if you want a decent drop and a comfortable ride. You can use them with stock or OE replacement shocks but I would highly recommend getting the Koni STR.T shocks with them.
The Skunk2 springs are progressive but have a much higher spring rate than the S.Techs, meaning they are stiffer. This also means you'll need to use some good aftermarket shock like Koni STR.T/yellow sports, KYB AGX, Tokico Illumina, Skunk2 shocks. This also means your ride on the roads will be a bit more rough.

I have a set of Stechs right now in my eh2 (eg Hatch) with tokico blues and boy it rides horrible as hell, bottoms out when i go over bumps/potholes/cracks/manholes etc. but on the freeway it rides smooth and not crazy bouncy at all. idk if my shocks are blown or the spring rates are not the right ones for my car, but i just had it in over 3 years ago n i drive only < 2.5kmiles. i too am looking to upgrade to a better shock/strut thinking about the tokico illuminas or Koni yellows and maybe switching over to GC coilover down the road. keep n mind this will be my summer dd and weeknd. what do you guys think?? what shocks would you recommend next?

Spring manufacturers don't determine road quality nor can they determine driving habits. Bottoming out is possible with any lowering spring.
Stick w/S.Techs and Koni Str.t's...its a good looking drop. Unless you want to go "hella" dumped. This is the route I'd take if I was in your shoes and wasn't looking to dump money into a coilover kit.
Have you looked into ST Suspensions coils and shocks? I have their coils on my daily and the ride is very smooth. I drive like a crazy person most of the time too.
