Default Accord Trunk Popper for 5th Gen Prelude

Hi, I am half way installing the Accord trunk popper in my 2001 prelude. Anyone else done this yet? Where do you get you 12V constant source from? Details would be appreciated very much. K know I can "look" around, but where does everyone else get their 12V constant from? Thanks.

There's a constant 12V fuse right above the footrest that you can very easily slide a wire into and clamp it tight with a zip tie or tape. It should be a 15amp fuse or higher, you will probably blow any fuse less than 10 amps.

Have you got everything else finished yet?

I've replaced the orignal popper with the new remote popper and I have also ran a wire from the new trunk popper to the alarm brain. Installing the new popper was a piece of cake. Just 2 bolts holding it together and removing the trunk release cable, alarm sensor wires (?? I think that's what they are), and a rod that connects the key to the trunk popper. Like I said, that was the easy part. Then I had to run a wire from the back of the trunk and then under the rear seat, and then thru the center console and up the front of the dash -This was the most time consuming step so far. I had to go back and forth to the store to get wire loom and connectors, so just laying the new wire took about 3 or 4 hours. Installing the new popper took around 15 minutes. So what I have left to do is to wire up the relay to the alarm brain and feed 12V into the relay pins.

Thanks for your reply. The constant 12V fuse that you described -is it in the fuse box?

on the top of the fuse box, it's one of the clip type fuses if I remember. It was easy just to slide the wire right into the oem wire that goes into that clip.

Have you got your relay all set up? I remember everything was posted in detail on preludeonline but I don't have access to it anymore.

I still have my printouts and of course I can check to see how I wired the relay, it's not hard at all.

No, the relay is still in the bag. I still have to mount that into the hole close to the alarm unit. Yah, I use to be on PO.com, but I don't have access either. I also printed out some of the pictures from other people that did this mod, so I'm using those to help me with my install. So, you have the remote trunk release installed on your car too?

Is the pin/connection like this for the relay:

#1: 12V constant
#2: pin 3 on alarm brain
#3: 12V constant
#5: Trunk wire

I want to try and find a wiring harness that will plug into the relay. If I can't find one, then I'll have to do what everyone did and use those spade connectors. How long ago did you do your install?

I used the spade connectors.

it looks like you have the correct setup for your relay, and should be able to get a plug for it from radio shack or another electronics shop.

Just remember to connect those 12V power to the fuse that I mentioned. It should work fine.

I spent all day looking for a wiring harness, but I can't seem to find a place that sells it. I've tried electronic stores and places like Walmart and a few auto stores. It seems like the harness is not used outside of Honda. I'll have to give the dealership a call tomorrow to see if they have one they want to sell. I might try the junk yard too, but there is not too many around here with a good selection of Hondas.

Thanks, I found the fuse that you're talking about... right above the fuse box in the yellow container. It looks like there are 2 slots in there for 2 fuses, but there is only one fuse in there. Do you know what this fuse controls?

Also, did you hook up a fuse to the wire going to the trunk? If so, what amp fuse did you use? Do you remember what gauge wire you ran from the trunk to the alarm brain? I used 18gauge, but am now wondering if I should have went with 14 or 16 gauge wire. For the 12V constant, I will be using 12 gauge.

I used 18 guage all around. I don't remember offhand what the fuse does, it may be on the fusebox panel cover (on the inside of the cover).

You don't need to run a fuse on the trunk solenoid wire, since your power is connected to a fuse already. ^_^

Just get the spade connectors if you can't find a plug for the relay. Though it seems kind of weird that no electronics shops have 4 pin relays and their components. Did you try other electronics shops?

Hmmm... I spent my lunch hour today calling automotive and electronic shops for the wiring harness plug for the relay (I guess some of these guys also call it a 'pig tail') and none of them have it or can tell me where to get one. Well, if this weekend is nice out, I will have to goto a junk yard and look for one myself. I just have to say to myself, "Just a few more days and it'll be working." If anyone knows where I can get my hands on one of these pig-tails please let me know. If I don't find one, I will use female spade connectors.
