New here...
Just wanted to say hello,
I recently picked up an 84 civic GL, and am trying to locate some parts .. A friend of mine said I should start looking on forums because other means seem to be usless... Everything for my car has been discontinued, and or people say they have what I need, only to find out they "thought I said 94" which if that was the case I could go to the scrap yard and have 30 of each to choose from.
I actually got this car for free... Someone was selling it, and i had to go check it out... I did, and although had no Cash, they didn't want much. They were asking $400CDN. It needed alot of work, and it sat for about 9yrs. I actually wrote it off... because the lady said someone else had just stopped by before me, and were coming back... (More power to him - he had the cash) 3 weeks later, I got a phone call... the dude missed 3 apts to exchange the money, and she was tired of it. She said " My husband loved your passion for this car. $200 and it's yours." I called my buddy, said... hey man, you still want that floor sanded!?? he said Yeah but i can either pay you, or rent the sander... one of the two... I pitched this idea... "I'll sand the floor with my palm sanders.... you buy me this car. One stipulation that he buys the car NOW, or no dice." he thought I was crazy... but agreed. .
Half a can of quick start, and 3 jumpstarts later, we got'er running. we slapped on some plates and actually drove it home!!!! It ran Rough... REALLY ROUGH. but she was alive none the less! It's a start.
I sanded his dining room in 12 hrs... with 2 palm sanders!!! turned out like GLASS!!
It's been somewhat of a rough road since then, It took me 6 months to find my turn signal switch, and still cannot get a proper air filter unless i want to spend an extra $50 shipping for a $10 filter..
Good news is 90% of the rust is gone, got it running a bit more smoothly.. still need to get a new fuel filter, and a carb kit so i can properly clean this one out.. still needs paint, but before I do that I NEED tail lights... there's no point painting her if i'm putting these scratched to crap tails back on...It passed safety though..
I've only put about $300 into the car, so I'm still happy.. My last car was a 93, and had 350,000K's on it. This one has only 123,700 original k's on it!!! 28yrs old and still a baby.
If anyone can point me in the right direction as to where to find parts, that'd be awesome, as I am running out of ideas!
Anyway, I'll continue to lurk, and drool over your cars...
Cheers,
DJ

In Finland we have this shop which has many new parts for Civic 84-87, there seems to be over 20 air filters and some 50 fuel filters in their stock. But as the company locates in the forgotten part of the Scandinavia, sending these items is rather costly. So if you become desperate, I can grab you these parts. You live in the U.S. right?
They don't have a carb kit though, but I ordered some gasket material on eBay and replaced the blown/ stiffened gaskets with the ones cut by myself, a very easy job to do.
EDIT: Seems that they have new tail lights as well. Three rights and one left, 44,40€ ($65) per piece. Shipping costs on the other hand...

Thanks for the replies..
I have a stock EW2 engine, and I need a 10" ROUND air filter.. FRAM discontinued the size, and "moto-master" did also,
I'm in Windsor, Ontario. Canada. My local Honda dealer said that there's "3" in Canada, and convieniently forget to put them on their parts order. (I think someone just can't find them burried in a stock pile..LOL)
For the carb, I had thought about just using the gasket material and cutting it to fit, but this is also my first carbeurated car... so I don't lknow much about them, and my buddy who's helping me knows his engines, but is a rustang guy. He does admit though that he loves this civic also... "only cause the carb though..." is his disclaimer
I had my exhaust manifold re welded, as there was 17 holes in it... and havent found a replacement yet. I plan on getting a header for it, but money wise that's not a necessity..so welds'll have to do for now.
I actually found tail lights on ebay, but everyone is only selling ONE... no one has a pair. so I'd be looking at paying DOUBLE shipping.
I waited 6 months and finally found my steering wheel switch for my lights and wipers. that was the last part I needed to pass safety test, got it, and within 2 days took it in and she passed
It's so much harder to find parts than my 92, and 93 were... here in Windsor, everyone and their grandma's unclcle's brother's cousin's DOG drives a 92-95. Half of them though are Half dead, or "R.O.B.A.R." 'd (Riced Out Beyond All Recognition) as i call it.
As it stands, my 84 GL I believe is the last one alive in my city at least. I see some 88-91's driving around, and some 84'ish Accords from time to time but no civics. I have yet to see mine. Saw a 1st gen prelude a little while ago that made me smile.. so at least there's a couple of us here that like the classics..
Since i'm not actually driving it, It's kinda hard to describe to friends what it looks like, so I say "it kinda looks like the Ba$**rd child of a Volvo, and a K-Car!" But I love it!
I need Tail lights, (mine are scratched to crap, and cracked in a couple spots) Not nessesary, but would be pointless with new paint.
Fuel filters, and an air filter.
Actually now that i look at it, I don't really need all that much, just can't find what i do need! I love this car. all original badges, hubcaps, Mudflaps, HAD the floor mats, (buddy tossed them cause they were "dead" ) (yes, I was pi$$ed), Interior just need a good overhaul, engine needs a tune up, Maybe some tint, but most of all some paint, and it'll look less ghetto. I did all the body work myself (aside from the welding) and to my knowledge i did it right... (did not fill dents with 2" of bondo
) I did the rear quarters with new metal and fiberglass.. not 100% on the shaping, but looks good to the eye, I'm not going for a show car here either... and it's 700X better than it was.
Also, I want to replace the tape deck I have... it's not OEM it's a crappy pioneer, and although works good, I'd rather find a stock Honda CD player. until i can get my Nakamichi :D
Anyone know if i can get a "short throw" shifter for this? I'm assuming I can use one from a CRX, or HB... but I know nothing about doing it. This thing has a throw like a Jeep! my 93 had one installed already, and i loved it.
and is there a way I can keep this classic looking shifter, but just shorten the "throw" of it?
Sorry, kinda went off there...

Welcome to HT! You've got some dedication, my friend, hand sanding an entire floor for a barely-running Civic, but I can't say I wouldn't do the same. Post some pics if you get the chance!

Here's the gasket I cut myself, used a paper hole punch to make the holes in it

I'm pretty **** when it comes to woodwork, and sanding though, so I think that made it take longer than it should have. But he was impressed with the finnish.
EDIT: Oh, and it WASN'T running when i went to look at it... I just had faith... 28yr old car with 123,700K's on it, It HAS to run!
Cheers.
