Del Sol SRS light on, no cruise, horn works
94 Del Sol Vtec. The SRS light is on, the horn works, and the cruise control switch is lighting up when pressed, but doesn't engage when setting it at the wheel. From what I have read when the horn doesn't work with those two it's a sign of the cable reel. However my horn works just fine. Any insight?
how long has this been going on? When my cable reel was going out my srs light would stay on, CC would work sometimes and same with the horn before all 3 stopped for good till the cable reel was replaced.
yeah, thats how mine went. srs light first, but the horn still worked. now the horn stopped working and the light is obviously still on. I just rev at people that I would normally honk at, lmao.
I just picked up the car today. I just wasn't sure if that was a symptom of the reel still since the horn worked and every thread I seen said that it was always the horn/cruise/srs light when it was the reel. Does the SRS light being on affect the cruise in any way? I know one of my cars the cruise wouldn't work when it had a CEL so wondered if maybe the cruise was disabled with the SRS light.

Yeah on one hand I was hoping it wasn't it, but on the other that is was as it's a semi easy fix and would kill two birds with one stone. I wouldn't worry about it for the time being, but seeing as how I have a 8 hour drive each way coming up in two weeks, cruise would be a big plus.

So do I need one specific to my car, Del Sol Vtec, or will one from and Si work as well. Do they interchange between certain year Civic's with cruise as well?
LOL, i used to do that in my F-150. It had no exhaust after the 2nd cat, that usually got ppls attention
the SRS system is entirely self contained and doesnt sent any information to anything else. MY money is still on the cable reel. I would start looking for one. I just replaced mine, bought it off of someone on here for $40. they are liek $250 new i belive.

Some basic troubleshooting is worthwhile before making a cable reel purchase.
Did you pull the SRS code? If you clear the code, does it return?
Does the light turn on in the cruise control main switch when it is pressed? Has the rubber stopper that presses on the cruise control switch at the top of the brake or clutch pedal fallen out?

The button you press to "turn on" the cruise control above the cluster lights up the little green light when pressed. However when you try to set the cruise control it does nothing.
Did not pull the SRS code. I wasn't aware you could pull the code without some sort of diagnostic tool.

Go to the FAQs sticky ---> Electrical ---> SRS. There are diagrams for pulling SRS codes and resetting the SRS computer. The procedure for 96-00 Civics should work on your car.
Which part are you referring to on the cruise control? #17 is showing as the cruise control switch and #45 as a 10mm hex nut. Getting under this dash is a PITA lol

Ok where the cruise switch presses against the pedal there is a hole in the pedal which I assume is the stopper you are speaking of. There is nothing there so the switch will just go through the hole so it doesn't depress it either way. The part for it is #40 & 46 on the above link, yet you can't just buy that part. I guess I can rig something temporarily to test it.
Just stuck a small bolt just big enough to depress the switch in the whole and now cruise works. Good looking out Ron! I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for one of the rubber stoppers some how.
Now onto the SRS. Next step will be to reset the SRS system and then we'll see how that holds up.

When I read your post, my first thought, like the others, was a cable reel problem. Nonetheless, it is always critical to do some troubleshooting to confirm any guess. Otherwise, you could be replacing a part for no reason.
I just bought a 92 Honda Civic EX about three weeks ago and am new to Honda-tech. When I bought it I knew the cruise didn't work and driving home that night I found out the cluster lights don't work either. SRS light is on. (was told the airbag was replaced). The gear indicator lights on the cluster work (when the headlights are off) but when I turn the headlights on those go out too. (bass ackwards, I know). 2 days ago I lost my horn. Is this a cable reel problem?
Fixed my dash cluster light situation. Dimmer switch was bad so I bridged the black and the red/black. Thanks to Moderator Ron FAQs/Electrical found a diagram to troubleshoot. Now the cc, horn, SRS light. All signs point towards reel cable. What are the possibilities that all 3 have problems and are unrelated?
