Do I NEED a catch can?
Setup:
stock gsr head
stock gsr block
9:1 cp pistons
eagle h beams
880cc injectors
I'll be getting tuned on 16-17psi on friday.
I dont have a catch can at the moment but I want to know if i need one for my setup. It's going to be 350+whp I believe. And if I did need a catch can, can I just gut the pcv valve and go straight to a catch and not run a line to the intake mani? I hear some people that dont use catch can unless its crazy horsepower so thats why I'm asking. Thanks

yeah I dont have bungs welded on the valve cover. Im getting the tune in 3 days so I got to find a way to get this engine breathing nicely. How would I do the two ports on the back?
theres a kit out there i cant remember the name, i think moroso makes one. just type into google for a breather kit. you need to fittings on the back of the block i believe they are from an h22 they use them as a water fitting. the kit would come with them though. t1 has a nasty system but thats 500$

If it was me I would get it tuned then have it done right. As long as you have a pcv system you should be alright. The worst thing thats gona happen is you'll push out a seal. You can fix that without a retune. Welding on the valve cover isn't easy, not everyone can do it. The back of the block is nice but it pushes ALOT of oil. I made a homemade catch can with a spray paint can. I jb welded the fixings to the valve cover and have them look good. You just have to prep everything extremely well. Then when you have the time and money get then welded. It will work

I have had the same turbo setup on my same 98 Integra for 12 years now. Have run up to 29psi and 500+ hp. I have a stock PCV setup with the exception of a little K&N filter stuck on my valve cover.

yeah thats what im was wondering.. if i NEEDED one. what im going to do is just vent a gutted pcv to a catchcan then block off the intake
the only thing i ever heard about the stock pcv valve is that it may get pushed open under boost.... i heard someone say something about using a stock toyota pcv valve meant for their boosted cars
You'll realize you need one when oil starts leaking all over the motor and you cant figure out why. I didnt have one when I first had a stock motor build. When I started upping the boost oil started shooting out my dipstick hole and pushing past the VC gasket.
i made 440whp on my gsr...pretty much the same set up u have...and i dont have a catch can..i kinda think they are a lil over rated...some people think, if u dont have one your motor is gonna blow lol...but when i push my closer to the 500, im goin to put one in running off the valve cover, thats about it.. I also think imo, that it depends how much u beat on your car too.
Call Brian @ B&R Fittings- 831-262-6468 for a 2 port drain back kit. That would be a great setup. 2 lines off the back of the block into a single filter catch can...
You dont have to have them welded into the valve cover either. It looks nicer but you can always run bulkhead fittings through the valve cover. It has Teflon washers on both side to seal up nicely. They will seal nicely, hold up to the temp(648*F melting point), and they will also hold up to the chemicals(oil and gas).
Something like this on the fitting. You can get them with 2 Teflon washers not ust one, or you could just order extra Teflon washers.

Have a block fittings for a D series? I have only seen just a couple and they are in the $60 to $70 price range. If a company could make some of these at a price about half that and still make a profit I think they would sell like hot cakes.
