searched all day for this answer but cant find it.

i just dit a 5 speed swap on my ce1 and i had some cb7 axles laying around so i install them.now my problem is that the axles on the driver side is too short (i think) cauz i cant put the nut(i had to extend it to fit but i think it will pop out when i will turn).i taugh i was the cb7 axle that was too short so i bought a cd5 driver axle but still the same problem...i measure both driver side axle and the cd5 is 1inch longer than the cb7 one.but cant put the nut on anyway.

is the passanger axles are the same from cb7 to cd5?cauz i hear a weird noise coming fromt the passanger side(yes i took it for a test drive without the axles nut on the driver side , taugh it will pop in ).

I would highly recommend against driving around with the axle nut off. If the stub axle is not fully seated against the back of the hub, and you turn the wheel, the different arcs that the wheel/spindle and axle stub will turn will bind up and more than likely cause damage to the stub or the CV joint.

Verify you have the correct axle, if so verify that the inner joint is not stuck fully compressed from the grease stiction. Also verify the boots were installed correctly. The Chilton manual will have the 'at rest' measurement of the axle. Compare this to what you have.
