Im a newbie to honda so be easy.so I recently burned out my engine in my 99 civic LX,the mechanic swaped it out for a D15B and the head says p2a-9 ,from what I researched I haven't been able to find any real info on this ,btw there is no other letter or # after the d15b stamp/engraving,trying to find out what year, if its non vtech or vtech and the cap only says Honda, any one familiar with this?

Does it have a vtec solenoid? There should also be circles with slashes through them on the head. That's the casting year/month.

Your car came with a D16 and you let him put a D15 in it? Why not put the correct motor in it? They are both cheap.

Long story, short when I bought the civic it had a "vtec" engine, turns out it was a vtec cap on a crappy engine ,it being the only car I had I needed it fixed asap so I dropped 6bills to my fathernlaw he took it to the mechanic and ended up with this, I checked the 2 circles on the head and it reads ( l4) and ( 9l0) the engine vin starts with an s leading me to believe it maybe a '95 but further down towars way in the bottom theres a 96 stamped
