Default Crankshaft seal trouble

I did a timing belt water pump cam and crank seal on a 90 integra . It ran and drove awsome for about 15 min . When I got home the new crank seal was leaking really bad . I also noticed that the exhaust cam seal which I just replaced had leaked a small amount also . So how far In or out are the seal supossed to sit , because it seems I have not done it right . Also how are you supposed to install a crank seal ? I used the crank pulley and a hammer and tapped on it until it sat flush with the oil pump housing .

did you dab a little grease around the retaining spring on the backside of the seal first? if not, the spring may have become displaced from its groove.
usually i'll lightly coat the outer rim of the seal with silicon as well

i did not grease it . the back side did not have a spring lookin coil thing . it was a solid piece . like a washer.

The solid piece side goes on the outside, and the rubber side with the spring goes on the inside. Grease can be used to help hold the spring in place . The spring is necessary to keep tension on the rubber seals so oil does not leak.

Any damage to the rubber while installing can also cause them to leak.
