Your best bet is to buy from places liek burns, spd, etc... There not like making normal splayed sch10 collectors. They take quite a bit of work to get finished.

Understandable, thing is i would hate to get a collector from someone just starting out building slip fit collectors. haha a whole lot rides on there fitment.

Ive made a few low angle single slip 16g collectors. Some of them were for turbo applications and I didn't want leakage to be a possibility so I made them like normal splayed collectors to be able to weld 100% around.

I have thought about just using double slips with bolts but after talking with a couple people I was told even they aren't 100% leakproof.

i am more concerned about the expansion of the tubing. want to run a 16 gauge turbo manifold instead of a sch pipe manifold to save the 25 lbs. turbo will be mounted to chassis, not supported by the manifold itself. i was thinking a double slip would be beneficial in this case with respect to expansion

Ah I see. Well any muffler shop should have a hydraulic expander that can expand tubing for the primary slips to make your double slip. Really the only extra work a splayed thin wall collector takes to make is in porting, welding takes a bit longer as you have to be a little more careful with heat input to prevent over penny.

Most everyone else on here buys their collectors it seems. I'm not about to spend $400+ on a simple collector if I don't have to.

i know what you mean. customers will ask for the double slip and as of now, we are buying from burns. we buy quite frequently from them. i appreciate your input.

we make lots of thin walled headers with merge collectors, stepped primaries, tri-y's, w/ and w/o megaphones (from burns) for stock and superstock cars. just looking for another alternative and trying to see if any of the fabbers on here are making them. this being my own project, id like to try something else other than burns.
