clutch MS or slave??
96 gsr...the issue i'm havin is intermitten. sometimes the car will not go into any gear when i push down the clutch pedal when the car is running. now if i turn the car off and push the clutch pedal down it will go into all gears smoothly. i also tried puttin the car into 1st gear and starting the car and it started to drag the car as i was starting it. would this be a clutch master cylinder issue or an slave cylinder issue? or possibly air is in the system? any and all help is appreciated. thanks
its your clutch/pressure plate assembly, it wont even release the clutch so you cant get out of gear. I had the same issue man, dont let it go too long or youll be stranded somewhere. i had it happen and had to drive 20mins to get home, sometimes starting in 3rd gear
I had the exact same problem. please read this carefully
initially when i was letting go of the clutch pedal, my car would kind of violently shake, this would only happen once per every few days
progressively the clutch just stopped working properly, i couldnt get into gear while driving (but i could get into gear when the car was off)
you have to understand, if you can get into gear with the car off, this means your transmission is fine, this does NOT diagnose the clutch. if you cant get into gear when the car is on, this is a clutch system problem (either the clutch, pressure plate, or hydraulic system - CMC CSC)
eventually my car got to the point where i was stranded, and I couldnt shift or anything. I tried starting the car in first gear and it would jerk forward and stall immediately. I went to my buddy who did a clutch replacement and my clutch was in pieces. metal everywhere.
This is what I did, again, this is in DIRE NEED! Dont do this unless you have to. But, once again, if you are good at it. it is perfectly safe and will be very useful to know.

Good luck. Also, I started with the CMC and CSC, didnt help but it was worth a shot. Usually you can look at the clutch pedal and see if there is any fluid leaking. If there is, chances are that your clutch master cylinder (CMC) is gone. I replaced the clutch slave cylinder (CSC) as well since it was only 20$ at my local Lordco
EDIT: I am not 100% sure if this is how you diagnose a clutch slave cylinder, but get a friend to push the clutch pedal in and out, and put your finger up to the rubber boot near the clutch slave. If you feel the pin moving back and forth, that should tell you that your Clutch slave and master are fine? Dont quote me, but it sounds reasonable.

thanks guys...appreciate the help. guess i'll bleed the system 2mrrw if that doesnt solve the prob. anybody gotta b series clutch 4sale 4 the low? lol. thanks again.
i bought mine on ebay for 130$ including the clutch, pressure plate, bearing and allignment tool.
Exedy oem replacement, you cant miss it. Its the best deal out there! Make sure you resurface your flywheel, or just buy one already resurfaced to make it easier.

jus bought a exedy stage 1 clutch...had less than 1k on it. guy dropped a valve in his motor n parted erything out. doesnt com with throw out bearing or pilot bearing so i ordered both from advance auto parts. gonna be removing the trans 2mrrw to switch erything out. was wonderin if using an oem throw out bearing wuld be ok? thanks again. will keep u guys posted.
jus took out the trans...as i took the clutch out pieces started to break off. lol. erything was covered in sludge(trans and block). clean up the trans n the motor so i can find wer its leakin from. how do u post pics on here? i will post pics if explained. flywheel went off to the machine shop to get turned. will get it back 2mrrw along with exedy stage 1 clutch and i went ahead n picked up some energy motor mount inserts. car will be my daily/ auto cross car. let u kno the results wen erything is put back together.
upload pics to an image hosting site like photobucket or image shack and then post the links here. Either the rear main seal or transmission input shaft seal is bad, Replace the rear main seal regardless since it's right there and they don't cost much.
its not leakin from there...sorry 4 not explainin thoroughly. i jus picked up the car. the guy said it had jus a valve cover leak by the vtec solenoid but he replace the gasket and jus didnt get around to cleanin up the mess. wen lookin at it, it looks like its leakin from the headgasket or maybe even the cam seal...the trans was covered in sludge as well as the bottom half of the motor. i'ma try to post before and after pics. thanks 4 the directions by the way.
car is up and runnnin fine...will post pics of the old clutch. the springs in the clutch wer loose. u culd literally move them around. they wer also broken in some spots.
