Haven't posted on HT for awhile but I need some help...electrical is not my strong point.

I decided to install a keyless entry/remote start system myself to save some money. Everything was going smooth until the starter wire in the ignition harness ever so slightly touched ground about mid-way through the process. The wire sparked and that was all she wrote. Tested with a multimeter--nothing. The dashboard and head unit shorted and now the car won't start.

Should I call it a day and have it towed to a shop or is there a relatively painless and inexpensive remedy for this? Thanks in advance

See if you blew the main ignition fuse under the hood. From what I remember, it's either 50 or 80 amps.

 

Agreed. I've seen people replace ignition switches, plug them in before screwing the switch to the cylinder and pop the fuse.
