Default CNC Head Porting

Hi Guys,

Can someone suggest me names of who does the best CNC porting in the US. I need one for my all motor B18c5 build. Also would you guys suggest cnc porting or standard.

This is for a drag spec build. Had approached team 4 pistons and even gave them a US10004/- advance 2 weeks back but they sent me a refund last nite saying they are unable to deliver.

Since I am located in India I will need for the company to also procure a core/stock head and then port it.

thanks in advance.

Jignesh

Hi,

Let me clarify. I am from India and out here we have people guys who do porting but that is on judgement and not by using a flow bench etc. The block is fully built read my signature for the specs.

I felt that my car can perform better if I get a nice professionally ported head hence this post.

I wish to purchase a professionally ported head and shipped to me via courier to India.

Hope I clarified the situation.

Regards,

Jignesh

If I were you I would not jump on a CNC port until you know for sure that it will work with what you need.

Just because its CNC doesn't mean that will be the best for your motor.

I have seen plenty of hand ports that have done better than a CNC port.

Its all about what set up you run. A CNC port can be to big for your set up and you can end up loosing power.

Ask for the flow data on the head and compare it with what your setup is to see if it will work for you.

Hi,

I am using the stock B18C5 head as of now. Don't know the specs of that unfortunately.

he is talking about your motor set up. if time is not an issue i would highly recommend Alaniz cylinder head technologies. hes one of the best hands down.

A hand ported cylinder head can also be too big. Port flow and the engines requirements are the important factors. Whether or not it's done by a CNC machine or by hand is a mater of preference. Specially if they both flow the same and all ports are equal. I think that is where the CNC is starting to become a favorite. It's more accurate/labour hours.

RLZ Engineering and Endyn - Energy Dynamics are two shops that I noticed the most in doing my own CNC port research. I thought I read something about Portflow doign Honda CNC, However, it seems as though they are only promoting CNC for Soobie heads on their website?????

Edit; Bisimoto Engineering has Portflow CNC head porting services listed on their web store. I knew I had come across it somewhere!

cc, rlz, 4piston

based on what you can research on the internet, those are my top 3.

they will tell you what you need, just ask.

RLZ Engineering is my personal favorite:

However, there are plenty of good ones out there.

HI Guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback. Have written to ccc, rlz, 4piston, Endyn, King motorsports( http://www.kingmotorsports.com/p-393...rted-head.aspx) as well as Alaniz.

Received a reply from only Alaniz and Endyn so far. Team 4 Pistons was unable to deliver after paying an advance almost 2 weeks back. They sent me a refund on Thursday after keeping me hanging in suspense. I need the head to reach me latest by the 27th/28th of this month as I have a drag event in the 1st week of May.

Something tells me this might be the reson why people will be having a hard time delivering. Based on your location and how busy they normally are this time of year..

This. by more accurate he means more repeatable between ports because the CNC will trace the EXACT same path with the tool, and since a machine is doing the work it can go faster, so the hours required go down.

fundamentally they are the same because the porter still needs to develop their port by hand and then write the program for the tool paths.

Just curious, do you know of any shops that specifically do this? the reason i ask is because probing can be quite a process itself and also i can't imagine many shops investing in probing equipment as there is not a lot of advantage when your talking strictly auto stuff, unless they are doing huge volumes and variety i guess.

not all of them...

for example the best cnc port in the game is NOT digitized from a hand port

who would want someone grinding on their cylinder head when technology has progressed beyond that and is available for us to take advantage of...

sorry but RLZ will not be able to meet that timeline since you are outside of the usa, nor do they have cores available at the moment.

there is only a few guys i know who design the ports in cad then transfer that to the cnc machine...most of the guys i know using cnc had the head probed and the program sent to them for their own cnc machine.
best cnc port in the game? so your saying there is one cnc porting prog that works perfectly for every application...lol...come back to earth.

lol i never thought of this but yeah it would make the most sense to send the head out and just pay someone to do the program for them as it wouldnt be all that expensive relatively speaking.

I bet some are also just doing a pen and paper layout and then writing the code also.

what im saying is there is only one guy that i know of who designs, develops and cuts his own ports in house and he happens to be the best in the game
