Default Lifespan of the Toda/Power Enterprise Timing Belt????

I was wondering how long they would last? On Toda's site it says that their belt is 200x strronger than stock, so does that mean I can leave it on the car longer?

I certainly wouldn't, but for about $120 more than an OEM belt, it'd be nice to get something more then just a different color. I wonder if the teeth on the belt are actually stronger or if just the belt itself is stronger. If it's just as likely to strip several teeth as an OEM belt it would be completely pointless.

Perhaps you could just leave it on for the recommended 90k instead of shortening it when using aggresive cams. I think I'd rather just change it @ 60k or so and use a Honda belt for just over 1/4 the price tag. Too bad it's so dern expensive, I'd love the extra piece of mind.

10k?!? No freaking way. I like to play it safe, but come on. I drive 10k miles in a few months. I'm still on the original timing belt with my GSR @ 81k. Put the big Crowers in at around 52k. Time to change it...yes. Am I paranoid...nope.

Ok the purpose of this belt, which i found in other topics just yesterday when i was looking for some info on it, it is not necessarily ment to last longer but to be a lot stronger when a more radical cam is used (i.e. Toda B or C) because it puts more strain on the belt... i think. this thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=243695 (towards the bottom) talks about why you might need to upgrade it. One guy says a stock belt should last longer that 90k miles if installed properly.

Yes it most likely will last longer than 90k, but at some point it WILL break. When it breaks it WILL do some not so good things. 90k is where Honda implies the risk becomes somewhat higher. Now I wouldn't mind changing it more often, perhaps 60k or so, but I see no reason to buy a $180 belt unless they're willing to offer some kind of insurance or some other compelling reason to go with such an expensive belt. Otherwise it seems to me that just changing it 30k miles sooner and/or inspecting & retensioning it more frequently would be a better option...and allot cheaper.

to me, if you have money and want the extra peace of mind then go for it. me? i wouldnt pay the extra bucks. i change my belt every 60-70k miles no matter what; and if the oem belt is installed and replaced properly there shouldnt be any worries...and i dont worry.

SO these belts do not neccesarily last longer that the OEM belts eventhought they r stronger?

doesnt make any sense??

How often would you guys, with high lift cams change timing belts(PE/Toda) then?(60K miles?)

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Shark Tank &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">my oem belt lasted 26k miles before the teeth went bye bye thanks to spec b's. we'll see how long this next belt lasts &lt;IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif" BORDER="0"&gt; </TD></TR></TABLE> Now in shark's situation i think you would want to go with the Toda Timing belt

The Power Enterprise belt is a Kevlar reinforced belt, quite nice...and I had a very good conversation with the owner of the company that's a Mechanical Engineer from Japan while I was at IAS, their booth was right across from HyTech's booth that I was working at.

Austin

p.s. he said that it was a "trade secret" if he made the belt for anyone else

if you have a stock valvetrain i would assume there is no need for this toda belt at all, but if you are running aftermarket cams and springs i would think this upgrade is a given. 100$ more for belt that is strong enough to handle the increased strain is well worth it imho, think about how much you spent on the valvtrain alone.
