well like the title states im wanting to find out if the automatic transmissions are interchangeable? a family member of mine has an 01 civic hx and the transmission went out and i was just wondering if that specific transmission is needed or if we manage to find another transmission off a ex/lx/dx etc. and the ecu to match will that work? any input would be appreciated thanks.

 

It would be best to use the right transmission rather than trying to mix-and-match parts. You don't want to put an EX ECU into an LX without also at least changing the cylinder head for one from a D17A2.

 

point taken, thanks for the input. thankfully i found a place that will rebuild the current transmission for the same price i found another used one.
