What ECU are you switching to?

No problems. As long as you put everything in properly. And make sure you are running the right ecu.

what is the right ecu?? the hx or ex ecu? the hx ecu is an automatic one. and the ex ecu is a 5 speed one... both obd 2.... if it's ok for me to swap an hx automatic tranny out for an EX 5 speed tranny and ecu... then why is there a problem with me swapping my HX automatic for an EX automatic? any idea anybody?

Thanks
Kenny

Don't quote me on this as I am not sure, but it seems to me like you would probably need a manual HX ECU to get things going properly. Anyone back me up or am I totally off the mark with that?

I'm not sure if you can use the EX ECU. Isn't the EX ECU programmed for VTEC and the HX is not? IMO, you need the Manual HX ECU. As long as you have all hardware, should be plug and play.

Not only that, but the y8 (EX) ECU is programmed just like Dimi said for VTEC, whereas a y5 (HX) runs VTEC-E. If you run a p2p (EX) ECU in place of a p2n (HX), you'll be throwing a lot more than codes... It will cause the VTEC-E to kick in around 5K and from around 3k (where VTEC-E SHOULD kick in) to the time when the VTEC-E kicks actually in, it will only be operating on 8 exhaust valves and will be VERY boggy. I really think you need the HX manny ECU (p2n is the code, I think).

the 5 spd hx ecu will not work too well on the auto hx engine.
the 5spd has the wideband (5 wire) o2 sensor and a different egr valve and control system than the automatic hx engine.

I didn't realize there was that much difference just because of the tranny... weird.

i did a swap a while back on a 5spd hx, it had the 5 wire o2 sensor, and an egr with lift control and lift sensor all in one unit, about 2 weeks ago i had an auto hx come in it had a 4 wire o2 sensor, and had an egr system like a civic vx or an accord, or even a crx hf. so it MAY work but it would take some interesting wiring to make it all happen.

Hmmm... I really wonder what ECU he could use... I wonder if it would be safe to go with say a manny VX ECU and do the OBD1 swap? Don't VX's have 4 wire O2's?

Well damn.. there's gotta be a way to do it. Hasn't anyone ever done an HX tranny conversion?

i would either do an EX head swap with it, or get teh 5 wire o2 sensor, the 5spd egr valve, and the 5spd harness.
the ex head swap seems better to me.
though it makes me wonder if a just an ex cam will work....

If you swap the ex head and run the ex ecu, then everything would work correctly assuming everything was installed properly?

That might take care of your VTEC engagement issues but you still have the O2 and EGR issues that need to be looked over. You'll probably need to rewire those, THEN call it a day. You don't want to overlook O2s either. With those not working properly, your car will run horrible.

The EX will put down more power. It's more performance orientated.

That bewilders me. Why would a A/T HX have a 4wire and a M/T hve a 5wire when they are the same damn engine

I was incorrect in my earlier statment and assume it has something to do with the fact that the AT is a CVT.
