I paid 11k and I gots 171 hp at the wheels

 

I got over 6K in my motor and its still at 0hp.

 

I've seen all motor builds reach 250whp.

 

Do you mean the most horsepower by bolt ons like boost, spray, or N/A without touching the internals?

That's what I want to know.

 

RP Racing got something like 251 or so and ran mid 11's in his drag ITR. That's the most I've seen from a B18c5 motor using an LS crank and bored to a 2.0L. Prob higher numbers out there but this is pretty good number to shoot for.

 

Aren't 1.8L's pushing 220whp now?

Never boost a b18c5, all N/A set of cams/springs/retainers/valves... should be plenty for a DD car, o yea and a fluidampner... bring the redline up and get a good tune...

It takes a substantial amount of money to get anywhere near 250whp. That's what most off-the-shelf B series motors are making at this point 84x89 or bigger. It's tough to make N/A horsepower.

 

I'm with this guy. To get 250 whp takes a butt load of money. If I do boost my R it will be with another B series motor I have. I will keep the C5 put away for some day I might want to return it to the car.

Pretty much. It's nothing like a K-series where every minor bolt on gets at least 5hp. The C5 was specifically tuned from the factory to make as much power as possible with whatever components it has (cams, pistons, etc) so in order to raise that power, you'd need to raise the quality/performance of those individual parts, which is expensive.

I guess the best thing OP can do is I/H/E + tune (not on stock ECU, please). Then, he can go TB and IM, then cams/cam gears, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, fuel system, sleeves, overbore .2L, etc. <---- close to (if not more than) $10,000 right there. Not money you should spend on ANY car you don't intend on tracking on a weekly basis.

I guess what he could do after I/H/E is get a lighter flywheel and an ATS 4.9 f/d. The acceleration from the quicker f/d could be what he is looking for. I know I want to get a JDM 4.7 in my trans, but I'm not gunna get one until I need to fix something else in my transmission.
