Default All Motor GSR Questions

Getting my motor put together at Stewart Engines in Indianapolis. Here is my build spec Jim rec. me to use.

B18C Block 84mm Darton Sleeves
84MM Wiseco pistons 13.2-14.2:1 Compression K594M84
Manley H-Beam Rods
Golden Eagle 84.5mm Headgasket
Arp Headstuds

B16 Pr3 Head (stock ported)
Full Ferrea Valvetrain, Valves, Springs, Retainers, Keepers
Skunk2 Pro 2 Camshafts
OBX ITB's (Yes I know what people think about them)
RMF Narrow Header
Greddy SP2 Exhaust.

My questions are if anyone was going to do a similar build would you change anything? I did the compression calculator and it said I should net around 13.4:1 compression running on e85. I'm hoping to hit 250whp with this setup. I know the unported head will make it even harder. Just don't have the funds to get the headwork done right now.

Thanks for any input guys. BTW its going in a DA Integra.

Looks good, but why a 84.5mm headgasket on an 84mm bore?
Intake manifold choice?

Went a .5mm overbore to make sure we didn't have clearance issues. Not all gaskets are cut precisely at 84mm so we didn't want to take a chance with part of the excess gasket causing any problems. And OBX Individual Throttle Bodies instead of an intake. Maybe with a velocity stack.

Take this for what its worth.. use the proper headgasket size....

Use Golden eagle if you're worried.

I'm dynoing a very similar set-up with a ported head and 48mm ITB's this weekend. I will be testing a RMF narrow too!
I'll let you know how I do.

In the process of an almost identical build but with only 11.8-12.0:1 compression... and using Buddy Club Spec III Cams. I'm sticking with the Type R intake mani for my DD for now..

Real curious to know how yours turns out, mine will probably be awhile before I hear it run. What engine management are you running?

All that block work and a stock port head...thats where the power is my friend. Airflow is key especially on the larger motors.

Thanks for the input guys. The RMF seems like a good header. Seen comparisons to Hytech Replica, DC, SMSP and others and it came out up top!! And of course tuning with Hondata S300.

And yeah I know I know the motor won't be good if the head doesn't flow. I've had recent things come up and can't fund the extra money for the port work right now.

Jim is a really good guy. I actually bought the GSR block and b16 head from a friend. The block was already sleeved and never ran. Got both of them, Eagle Crankshaft, Skunk2 Cam Gears, Moroso Catch Can Setup, D&H 69mm throttle body and more for 3K. I know it seems high but everything was basically brand new.

You can call Jim anytime he's willing to talk to anyone. http://www.stewartengines.com
To get the motor completely assembled, decked, clearances, valve adjustments basically an entire longblock build is $1700 also includes getting the block and head painted by a top notch painter!!!

I'm just stoked nobody around here has actually built a car. They just swap motors after motors. My friend in Indy has an EM1 that Jim did and it made estimated 230 to the wheels on a stock bore LS/VTEC with Pro 1 Cams and 12.5:1 Compression. I took a ride in his car and it gave me the inspiration to get my project moving along. He also rec. me to go to Dave Blundell for tuning.

Skip the itb's and spend the dough on some head work.

And for all those saying to use the 84mm gasket....believe it or not, oem gaskets are larger than their intended bore size. You'll be fine with the .5 over gasket.

Thanks for the agreement. I'm just doing what my builder referred. And with over 20 years of experience and a professional builer and tuner. I think I'll take his word on going .5mm over. Worse thing it can do is slightly lower my compression some....

His car might not be near 230 at all. Nobody knows. He does have ZEX Nitrous direct port kit going to his itb's. Maybe he estimated 230 with the nitrous lol

You can just order an oem b20 headgasket. Oem is 84.5mm anyway. And GE uses oem gaskets, so you'd be paying a markup on the same gasket.

The oem gaskets are oversized for the use of using oversized oem pistons. This is why oem only offers one headgasket size, or else they'd offer a separate gasket for use of oversized pistons.

Anyone have opinions on if an Exedy Stage 2 clutch kit, and ACT Prolite 8.8lb flywheel is a good combo for this setup?
