d16y8 chucked a rod through the block - what block replacement?
I've got an ej8 here that chucked a rod through the block, and I'm wondering what kinds of problems I will run into if i end up putting the y8 head on a different block. This is my first time messing with a d-series. Are there any sensors on the other d series bottom ends that will have to be wired differently? I know most of the sensors on our cars are on the top end, which won't be changing so that is fine. The car is a CANADIAN si coupe with a/c, p/s, cruise and the works. So i guess the real question is, what are my options for bottom ends, and what is the difference between the y8 bottom end and say the z6 and y7's.
Y7 bottom end is basically the same. Z6 has a better crank than the Y7/Y8 and due to double the amount of oiling holes.
If you want it just plug and play though, A y7 block will be the easiest to deal with. The Z6 doesn't come with a knock sensor hole and unless you run a p28, you'll never have Vtec.
y5 bottom end would also be a good choice if you can find one, basically the same thing more or less comparable to the y8.
