Default Turbo ?

Hello everyone, i just recentley finished my turbo R and im just waiting for my electronic boost controller to arrive. My question is would it be ok to turn on the car without the boost controller, some people tell me yes some say no. im a little confused cause never had a boosted car before. Thanks

You can run it, but I wouldn't push it too hard yet. Without a boost controller, the wastegate will most likely open before the desired boost pressure is reached, and you'll end up with pretty bad turbo lag.

this doesn't even make sense

anyway, to the op, the dangerous part about your post is not telling us which turbo it is, what wastegate spring you have or if it was tuned for the boost level of your spring. if your car wasn't tuned for that EXACT combo, don't drive it.

it should be almost common knowledge by now, if you're going to turbo an R, you don't pressurize the motor until you tune it. that means you drive to the tuner on your p73 ecu and stock injectors and either don't connect the intake tube or leave the BOV off so it won't pressurize. could pull the WG spring too

I meant with an average spring rated for 7 bar, without a controller it wouldn't get up past 3.5 bar, and it'd be shitty to drive. Just saying generally. Don't know about R's though.

this doesn't make sense either

a .7 bar spring will release boost at .7 bar, the controller would allow .7+ bar

I don't have a type r but I just built my Ls vtec engine and slapped a Garret on it. I don't have a boost controller at all but I just got mine in the mail. I drove around just fine for 2 weeks but I didn't let it rev past 4k rpms. It felt pretty normal and my engine is still good but it might just be that I'm lucky! Just my 2 cents. Hopefully you get a straight answer!

I truly hope you don't have that wastegate opening up and dumping into the radiator. That's just killing equipment. IS there a proper dumptube on this car?

If your talking about the injectors clips you need ob1 injector clips with aftermarket injectors (such as Rc engineering) you can get clips from RC as well... and regarding running the car without a boost controller you can start it up but I wouldn't recommend driving it around cause it will spike even with a wastegate.... unless you can handle driving under like 3-4k rpms which is too tempting for a virgin boost guy.. no offense.. plus you may also detinate without a tune... Bottom line if you can be patient and wait it will save some headaches.. Good luck

On my turbo LS setup i started my car before the boost controller was installed... make sure you unplug your ecm/pcm fuse and build oil pressure for the first start... then just let it idle for about 5 min to try to execute an idle learn procedure... a few revs wont be bad to dont go crazy until your setup with the boost controller... i used a gt25r for my setup, gt35r sounds a little big for a 1.8L running low boost? im guessing with stock internals?... GL with the build though
