Default Diff Bearings Axle Seal Leaking

Just trying to make sure im at the point of splitting the tranny and replacing the bearings..
after my visit to the track my car (1996 integra gsr) had developed a drip. Thinking it was a little oil still sitting around after i changed the oil, i didnt think anything of it. so im driving. and 5th gear decides it wants to pop out. and keep popping out. i get home. and start adding tranny fluid. it takes 2.3 qts.......... **** lol.
so i figure ill take it to work and see what this leak is. so i drive it to work(no more 5th gear popout) and put it on the lift. i notice a few things... 1 driver axle seal leaks. passenger does not. passenger axle while spinning looks like its wobbling. the gap from the cv joint housing to the trans cas gets bigger and smaller as it spins. the halfshaft looks as though it is spinning in a slightly oval manner as well. not a true circle. i put a new axle seal in it. low nad behold. it still leaks. so i take the axles out and stick my finger in on the splines that the axles slide into. and i can push them around with my finger. i can move the splines up down and side to side. enough to make me be skeptical on if thats right. wit the passenger axle in i can push the inner joint up and down and it will move inside the trans as though it has excessive clearance. the halfshaft did the same thing before i tightened the 3 14s down. I drive the **** out of the car and it sees the track almost once a week. i run Drag radials and launch it decently hard. usually dont wheel hop untill last week. i have come to the conclusion that i think the bearings on the differential are bad. causing excessive wobble with the axles and letting the seals leak. i also can say that at a few instances. i have caught my self thinking i saw my speedo twitch 10-20mph but it happens so fast i thought it was my mind. I just want to get a "yeah your on the right track" or "same **** and your right" or "your an idiot its this". lol. before i order the bearings and pull the trans.

any takers?

although. looking at a diff. the splines are on the inside of the diff. which prolly has nothing to do with the bearings.

i also tried a second halfshaft. whats odd is that the passenger axles looks completely wobbley but it does not leak. the drivers which looks less wobbley leaks... and when i pulled the first axle seal out. it looks completely fine. no tears or anything.

Transmission is going to have to come apart, although you may have bigger problems to worry about than just the diff bearings.

any ideas on what to be looking for specifically? the transmission. after i flled it up still drove and shifted just fine. no vibrations no noises turning or any other time. You would never know something was wrong if it didnt leak.

Check the gears, I wouldn't be at all surprised if 5th was burnt from lack of fluid. And check the ring and countershaft gear for abnormal wear.

Just gave it one last lookover and a thorough cleaning and tried a new seal tonight. since the bearings dont come till tommorow.. got a video while it was running. so you can see what its doing. i tried a new axle on the passenger side and its the same way. 2 halfshafts both the same thing as well.

pulled it tonight. tore it down.
replaced the taper bearings with the sealed ones. reshimmed the diff. (btw my case was huge they had GIANT shims in that thing).

all back together. new seals in from honda. drive it around. dont see any leaks. okay. pack up. and head home. get home and i look under and see a few drops(i live 15 minutes away so it drove a good amount). as well as that axle STILL wobbles. ive tried 2 axles and they both did that. (chance they wear both bad)?
i swear if this leaks and i cant get to IFO because of something stupid im going to be pissed. my pinion gears have decent slack. but would they cause this? can i try one of those speedi sleeve things? im so pissed and so stumped.

Anyone? my friend whos a tech at honda was saying the 07-08? oddessey is doing his same thing and they are replacing it under a faulty diff code. They develop to much slack in the spider gears i guess.

just verified the axles are good. i have a b16 eg on the lift in the shop and i put a brand new axle in it, pasenger side. very little play. so i pulld it out and put the other axle i had tried in mine. that had play in my trans. and it had the same amont (very little) as th new one in the other b16. so the axles are good. and guess the diff is worn. this sucks.
