Radiator Leak Problem???
I was sitting outside of a friends house with the car idleing and I noticed white smoke coming from under the hood. I have noticed this smoke before but I thought it was coming from the hole in my flex pipe but that couldnt be the case this time because my flex pipe is fixed. Then I noticed my temp gauge started to move up and that was the first time that happened out of the couple of times I have seen this white smoke coming from under the hood. So I shut the car off and got out and I smelled anti-freeze in the air. I look under my car and pretty much all the anti-freeze was there on the ground. I inspected all my hoses even though it was pretty dark outside and I couldnt find anything. I had some extra anti-freeze and I had my friend get me some water to fill it back up. After I filled it, I turned the car on and let it idle with the radiator cap off and it appeared to be okay for the first couple mins...Then I look under the car and noticed that the fluid I just put in there was dripping from up in the splash guard (but again it was dark outside so I couldnt see clearly) After letting it idle for a good 10 mins and no change in the temp gauge (normal operating level) I decided to drive home (about a 15 to 20 min drive) and still no change in the temp. Finally when I got home I decided again to sit there and let it idle and see if it would do the same thing again and it did :-( First the white smoke but this time it seemed like the fluid just poured right from under the car and it started trailing right down the hill I am parked on. Its dark and late so I didnt want to mess with it tonight but I would like some ideas as to what this could be. I really hope its not a blown head gasket. The car only overheated once during this whole scenario. Any ideas??? All would be appreciated...
What side of the car is the coolant leaking from? Did you run your ac at all? Try running your ac to see if the fan runs. I just fixed a blown heater hose in my f22b1. The bleeder valve needs to be opened after you change any hoses. Make sure to top off the radiator and overflow with car running.
There are hundreds of places (ok, maybe a few less?) it could be coming from. As "aces" asked, at least narrow down the general area. Or, fill the rad and bleed the air. The crank it up and get out the trusty flashlight and find where it is coming from.
I took the time to find it and fix it yesterday. There was a hole in my heater core hose so I just cut it at the whole and clamped it back on there. Shes fine now. Thanks guys
