Zip tie valve spring compressor. It Works!
I was putting together a d16 head without a spring compressor and this is what i came up with. Sure the right tool would work better, but you don't get better than this for free! Tell me what you think, try it out. It may seem annoying at first but becomes easy quickly.

not letting your resources dictate limitations; objective people should see inspiration in this rather than misplaced critique. i can admire the ingenuity.
thank you for sharing and find comfort in the notion that if you continue to find solutions to your problems you will eventually, if you have not already, transcend greatness.

Might be a problem if there are dual valvesprings in it. I can't remember what's oem in a C1 head anymore. Obviously a type-r head would have duals on both sides. It may work if you zip tie the outer spring if the inners can be compressed while putting on the retainer. Hmm.
I have the machined aluminum compressor specifically for these heads. I forget who is making them now. Really worth it if you do this more often than once a year.

It should work on anything with a light enough spring. Dual valve springs create another problem, I think the zip tie's would break as i happened a couple of times to me. As far as doing the inner and outer seperatly you wouldnt be able to get the zip tie out. The proper spring compressor is the best solution but i wanted to put this up and maybe it would get someone out of a bind. Thanks for the props!
You sir are a ziptie master. There are only a few of on this earth, and you are one of them.
I once used a ziptie to fix a busted gas peddle on a uhaul truck, it got me to where i needed. PROPZ

I like the idea. Still, compressor tools are cheap as a ****. Either way, +1 for a last second redneck engineered tool (not to use "redneck" in an insulting way; I believe redneck engineering is a popular term for homemade tools and fixes, and some people take it as a compliment)
Props for the zip tie idea.
I know it's a lot of money, but I would drop the $1.99 for a set of safety goggles. Anytime you work with springs it's a good idea.

i switched a bent exhaust valve out on a obd0 b16 head without a comperssor... i had a towell on my table and i had a rag and the head was on top of the rag where the cylinder was that i had to replace the valve...
i had a friend with the keepers in his hand and i pushed the valvespring down far enough with my thumbs that he could pop the keepers in...
not kidding those obd0 vtec heads exhaust single valve springs are weak... this was a b16 head
