Default Weird Electrical Problem 98 civic LX

All stock, the whole electrical system acts weird. It runs fine when I first start it, but then if i step on the gas pedal and let it rev pass 2k then the lights inside and out would dim then come back on at about the rate of the signal, but little faster. As long as i start it and let it idle, it runs perfectly fine, it'll idle all day perfectly. When it acts up, I notice that idle has a very slight surge. Thought that the regulator might be bad, I replace the alternator with a known good alternator and still acts the same. I swap it because, I disconnected the ground cable on the battery and it died so I thought that the old alternator was bad but the new one does the same thing. Need Help badly. thanks for reading....

sounds like you may have a bad ground or bad charging fuse. Make sure you have all your grounds from the motor to the body and make sure the fuse between the battery and the alt is still good. if it all checks out ok then tray and see if you have line pull a high current load when the car is on.

that's about the only thing i haven't try is giving it a load test while the car is running. The only load i did was turned on everything, as long as i don't rev it, theres nothing wrong with it. Fuses all looked good I did cleaned the main engine to ground and battery to body ground cables and the battery terminals to make sure there's no corrosion and still didn't help. it's going to be one of those thing that's gonna take forever to find and probably turn out to be some lame. thanks for the input.

get a load test on the battery. and if you have a volt meter see if your getting 14.4 at the battery with it running if it's over 14.9 it's over charging and will damage the electrical system

Usually at any Autozone or Advance Auto Parts you can borrow the scanner to read the codes or if they're nice enough they'll give you a hand.

Check the wiring connected to the bracket thats bolted up to the intake manifold and block. You'll know what wiring I'm talking about when you see a blue connector zip tied to the bracket. Over time the wires back there rub up against the bracket and short out. Most cases are worst than what you have going on. Take a very close peek at those little wires, its a known problem on those Y7s.

Something like that usually tosses a code for:

Too high voltage to O2 sensors
ELD (Electronic Load Detector)
and something with the alternator.

Speedometer isn't hopping around is it?

Most likely, 7.5A dash fuse 15 was blown, possibly due to a short in the wire harness near the IM bracket. See Fuse 15 TSB in my signature.
